Hier bei METALHEADs new stuff gab es schon einige Vorberichte zu 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 und ihrem kommenden Album 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙. Nun steht also das Review des kompletten Albums an, nachdem schon einige Singles einen beeindruckenden Vorgeschmack geliefert haben.

„The Devil’s Own“ eröffnet das Album mit einer Klarheit, die kaum Raum für Zweifel lässt: 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 wissen exakt, wer sie sein wollen. Und sie verschwenden keine Sekunde damit, es zu verbergen. Ein kurzer, melodischer Auftakt zieht den Hörer hinein, bevor der Song ohne Vorwarnung explodiert. Die Attacke ist unmittelbar, kompromisslos und erinnert in ihrer Direktheit tatsächlich an die frühen ARCH‑ENEMY‑Jahre, als Melodic Death Metal noch scharfkantig, bissig und ungeschliffen war.

Was 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 hier so überzeugend machen: Sie verbinden die rohe Härte ihrer Riffs mit einer melodischen Auflockerung, die nie weichgespült wirkt. Im Gegenteil – die Melodien dienen als Kontrastmittel, das die Brutalität erst richtig zum Leuchten bringt. Besonders der episch anmutende Solopart sticht heraus: Er öffnet den Song kurz in eine fast heroische Weite, bevor die Band wieder in ihre gnadenlosen Eskapaden zurückschlägt.

𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 bleiben in puncto Gesang kompromisslos. Cleane Vocals sind bei Diva Satanica nicht angesagt. Sie macht ihrem Namen alle Ehre und speit ihre Lines mit einer martialischen Vehemenz heraus, die den Songs eine unerschütterliche Härte verleiht.

Was dabei besonders auffällt: Ihre extremen Vocals fungieren nicht nur als Verstärker des ohnehin brutalen Fundaments, sondern auch als Kontrast zu den melodischen Einlagen, die 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 immer wieder geschickt einstreuen. Gerade weil die Instrumentalfraktion gelegentlich mit epischen oder melodischen Motiven arbeitet, bleibt der Gesamtausdruck durch Diva Satanicas harsche Performance jederzeit unerbittlich.

So entsteht ein Spannungsfeld, das den Sound der Band definiert: Melodische Verspieltheit ja, aber niemals auf Kosten der kompromisslosen Schlagkraft. Diva Satanica hält die Zügel fest in der Hand und sorgt dafür, dass selbst die melodischsten Momente nie ihre Schärfe verlieren. So entsteht ein Spannungsfeld, das den Sound der Band definiert: Melodische Verspieltheit ja – aber niemals auf Kosten der kompromisslosen Schlagkraft.

Doch BLOODHUNTER treten keineswegs auf der Stelle. Innerhalb ihres klar definierten musikalischen Terrains bewegen sie sich mit genügend Spielraum, um neue Facetten einzubringen. Ein gutes Beispiel dafür ist „The Threshold Of Hell“, ein Song, der eine spürbar andere Stimmung transportiert.

Aber es ist nicht so, dass 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 hier auf der Stelle treten. Innerhalb ihres klar definierten musikalischen Terrains bewegen sie sich mit genügend Spielraum, um neue Facetten einzubringen. Und so ist auch der Song „The Threshold Of Hell“ entstanden, der mal eine andere Facette und Stimmung einfließen lässt, indem man Sänger Fernando Ribeiro von MOONSPELL als Gastsänger für den Song gewinnen konnte. So wird dem Song eine Phase geschenkt, in der eine dystopisch melancholische Stimmung erschaffen wird und dem Song eine andere Form der Intensität verleiht.

Gitarrist Dani Arcos hat folgende Meinung zu dem Song:

Ich finde, es ist der gelungenste Song des Albums. Wir haben wirklich hart daran gearbeitet, sowohl musikalisch als auch in Bezug auf die Soundeffekte, die Zusammenarbeit mit Fernando Ribeiro… und er hat auch einen tollen Groove.

Ob „The Threshold Of Hell“ nun der gelungenste Song auf dem Album ist, will ich mal dahingestellt lassen. Er hat vermutlich die größte Tiefe auf dem Album, aber viele andere Songs finde ich nicht weniger gelungen. Der Track sticht hervor, bleibt hängen und markiert einen klaren Fixpunkt im Albumfluss, aber er steht nicht isoliert da.

Was das Gesamtbild so stark macht, ist die handwerkliche Souveränität, mit der die Band agiert. Alles sitzt, alles wirkt präzise ausgearbeitet und hochwertig umgesetzt. Gleichzeitig erlauben sich 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 immer wieder kleine stilistische Eigenheiten, die einzelnen Songs eine eigene Kontur verleihen: mal eine melodische Wendung, mal ein rhythmischer Akzent, mal ein atmosphärischer Einschub, der kurz die Perspektive wechselt.

Größere stilistische Wagnisse gehen sie dabei nicht ein, doch das müssen sie auch nicht. Die Band bewegt sich bewusst innerhalb ihres etablierten Klangraums und nutzt diesen mit einer Konsequenz, die eher Reife als Risiko signalisiert. Statt radikaler Experimente setzen 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 auf Variation im Detail, und genau diese Feinjustierungen halten das Album lebendig.

So gibt es auch ein Gastspiel von Sängerin Laura Guldemond (BURNING WITCHES) beim Song „The Path That Never Ends“. Damit erschafft man Akzente, die das grundlegend vernichtende Soundkonzept ein wenig erweitert und ihm eine etwas andere Ausdruckskraft verschafft. Der Chorus ist doch wirklich super gelungen. Sehr gelungen finde ich auch die Gitarrenarbeit, die durchweg für Verzückungen sorgt. Es gibt viel zu bewundern, mitunter auch die genialen Solos.

Mit „Human Insecticide“ erreicht das Album seinen finalen Ausreißer – und was für einen. 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 wagen sich hier an den ANNIHILATOR‑Klassiker von Alice in Hell (1989), und sie tun das nicht halbherzig. Als letzter Song auf 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙 fungiert das Stück als absolut unversöhnlicher Abschluss, der keinerlei Erholung zulässt.

Diese zerstörerische Wutrakete lässt die Welt noch einmal erzittern, ein letzter, brutaler Schlag, der den Hörer völlig zerschlagen zurücklässt. 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 verwandeln das ohnehin aggressive Original in eine noch heftigere, noch kompromisslosere Attacke. Ein Cover, das nicht nur respektvoll ist, sondern dem Song eine neue, moderne Brutalität einhaucht.

Ein echtes Highlight des Albums, weil es zeigt, wie souverän die Band mit fremdem Material umgeht und wie mühelos sie es in ihren eigenen, vernichtenden Soundkosmos integriert. Mit diesem furiosen Angriff setzen sie schließlich ein finales Ausrufezeichen, das das Album nicht nur würdig abschließt, sondern regelrecht detonieren lässt.

Fazit

Mit 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙 liefern 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 ein Album ab, das ihre Stärken kompromisslos auf den Punkt bringt und zugleich genug Variationen bietet, um über die gesamte Spielzeit spannend zu bleiben. Die Band bleibt ihrer brutalen, präzise geschliffenen Identität treu, erweitert ihren Sound aber durch gezielte Akzente.

Die Gitarrenarbeit glänzt durchgehend, die Soli setzen immer wieder echte Höhepunkte, und Diva Satanicas unerbittliche Vocals halten das Album fest im Kern dessen, wofür 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 stehen: Härte, Intensität und absolute Konsequenz.

Here at METALHEADs new stuff, we’ve already published several previews about 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 and their upcoming album 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙. Now it’s time for the full review of the complete record, after several singles have already delivered an impressive taste of what’s to come.

“The Devil’s Own” opens the album with a clarity that leaves hardly any room for doubt: 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 know exactly who they want to be. And they waste no time hiding it. A brief melodic intro pulls the listener in before the song explodes without warning. The attack is immediate, uncompromising, and its directness genuinely recalls the early ARCH ENEMY years, when melodic death metal was still sharp‑edged, biting, and unpolished.

What 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 do so convincingly here is combine the raw heaviness of their riffs with melodic touches that never feel watered down. On the contrary, the melodies act as a contrast agent that makes the brutality shine even brighter. The especially epic‑sounding solo section stands out: it briefly opens the song into an almost heroic expanse before the band snaps back into their relentless onslaught.

𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 remain uncompromising when it comes to vocals. Clean singing simply isn’t part of Diva Satanica’s repertoire. She lives up to her name, spitting out the lyrics with a martial ferocity that gives the songs an unshakeable hardness.

What stands out in particular is that her extreme vocals not only reinforce the already brutal foundation, but also act as a counterpoint to the melodic elements 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 skillfully weave into their songs. Precisely because the instrumental section occasionally works with epic or melodic motifs, the overall expression remains relentlessly fierce thanks to Diva Satanica’s harsh performance.

This creates a tension that defines the band’s sound: melodic playfulness, but never at the expense of uncompromising impact. Diva Satanica keeps a firm grip on the reins, ensuring that even the most melodic moments never lose their edge.

But 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 are far from standing still. Within their clearly defined musical territory, they move with enough freedom to introduce new facets. A good example of this is “The Threshold Of Hell“, a track that conveys a noticeably different mood.

It’s not as if 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 are treading water here. Within their established sonic framework, they allow themselves enough room to explore new shades. This is also how “The Threshold Of Hell” came to be — a song that introduces a different facet and atmosphere by featuring MOONSPELL’s Fernando Ribeiro as a guest vocalist. His contribution adds a passage in which a dystopian, melancholic mood unfolds, giving the track a different kind of intensity.

I think it’s the most complete song on the album. We worked really hard on it, both musically and in terms of sound effects, the collaboration with Fernando Ribeiro… and it also has a great groove.

Whether “The Threshold Of Hell” is the strongest song on the album is up for debate. It likely has the greatest emotional depth, but many of the other tracks are no less successful. The song stands out, sticks with you, and marks a clear anchor point in the album’s flow. Yet it doesn’t stand in isolation.

What makes the overall picture so compelling is the band’s sheer craftsmanship. Everything sits exactly where it should; everything feels meticulously executed and delivered with high quality. At the same time, 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 allow themselves small stylistic nuances that give individual songs their own contour: sometimes a melodic twist, sometimes a rhythmic accent, sometimes an atmospheric shift that briefly changes the perspective.

They don’t take major stylistic risks, but they don’t need to. The band moves deliberately within their established sonic territory and uses it with a consistency that signals maturity rather than caution. Instead of radical experiments, 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 rely on variation in the details, and it’s precisely these fine adjustments that keep the album vibrant.

There is also a guest appearance by vocalist Laura Guldemond (BURNING WITCHES) on “The Path That Never Ends“. Her contribution adds accents that slightly expand the band’s fundamentally destructive sound concept and give it a different expressive quality. The chorus is truly excellent. The guitar work is also outstanding throughout, offering moments of pure delight. There is much to admire — not least the brilliant solos.

With “Human Insecticide“, the album reaches its final outlier — and what an outlier it is. 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 take on the ANNIHILATOR classic from Alice in Hell (1989), and they certainly don’t hold back. As the closing track on 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙛 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙, it serves as an utterly unforgiving finale that offers no respite.

This destructive blast of fury shakes the world one last time — a final, brutal strike that leaves the listener completely shattered. 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 transform the already aggressive original into an even more ferocious, even more uncompromising assault. It’s a cover that is not only respectful but injects the song with a new, modern brutality.

“Human Insecticide“ is a true highlight of the album, because it shows how confidently the band handles material that isn’t their own and how effortlessly they integrate it into their own annihilating sonic cosmos. With this furious attack, they set a final exclamation mark that doesn’t just close the album. It detonates it.
