XENTRIX zählen zu den altgedienten britischen Thrash‑Bands, die bereits seit Ende der Achtziger ihr Unwesen trieben: Ihr Debüt Shattered Existence (1989) verband die technische Strenge der Bay Area mit einer deutlich britischen Direktheit. Das schepperte an allen Ecken und Kanten. Mit For Whose Advantage? (1990) schärften sie ihren sozialkritischen Blick und etablierten jene Mischung aus kantigen Mid‑Tempo‑Grooves und messerscharfen Riffs.

Mit dem dritten Album Kin (1992) vollzogen XENTRIX dann irgendwie einen Stilbruch und lieferten lahme Songs. Den Songs fehlte es an Energie und Power, die auf den ersten beiden Alben so vehement durchgeschlagen haben. Es war so, als hätte man den dem XENTRIX Power-Motor Zucker in den Tank geschüttet. Der Motor stotterte nur noch so rum und erlag dann letztlich einem Kolbenfresser.

Fulminante Rückkehr

XENTRIX kehrten erst nach vielen vielen Jahren zurück und es wurde 2019 das Album Bury The Pain via Listenable Records veröffentlicht. Und hey… Das ging wieder ab wie die Sau. Scheinbar wurde der XENTRIX-Motor gereinigt, neue Kolben rein und so eingestellt, dass er wieder mit voller Power hochdrehen konnte. Und mit Seven Words (2022) wurde man nicht ruhiger, sondern verpasste dem Sound noch ne Nitroeinspritzung. Und jetzt vier Jahre später folgt nun am 30. Oktober der nächste Angriff.

Neue Single „Allied With The Enemy“

Der Release von 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙮 dauert noch einige Wochen, aber es gibt mit der Single „Allied With The Enemy“ schon mal einen Vorgeschmack. Der Titeltrack des Albums ist ein Versprechen! Er verspricht, dass die Band ihrem Sound seit dem Comeback treu bleibt und weiter Vollgas geben werden. Hochdynamisch, aggressiv und fokussiert rocken die Jungs hier ein wahnsinnig geiles Brett. Ein witziger Fun-Fact ist die Tatsache, dass der Song eigentlich gar nicht mehr für das Album geplant war und eher zufällig entstand und dann sogar zum Titeltrack avancierte. Die Band kommentiert zu „Allied With The Enemy“:

Der Song „Allied with the Enemy“ war das letzte Stück, das wir für das Album aufnahmen; eigentlich brauchten wir zu diesem Zeitpunkt keine weiteren Songs mehr, doch wie sich – kurioserweise – herausstellte, avancierte er bald zum Titeltrack des Albums und zur ersten Wahl für eine Single-Auskopplung.

Das zentrale Thema des Songs lautet:
„Was wäre, wenn der größte Verrat nicht darin bestünde, dass sich jemand gegen dich wendet, sondern dass du – ohne es zu wollen – dazu gebracht wirst, dich selbst zu verraten?“

Textlich ist der Song im Horror-Stil gehalten und enthält eine subtile Anspielung auf die Grundidee der „Alien“-Filme.

Musikalisch bewegt er sich im Grenzbereich zwischen Heavy Metal und Thrash Metal: scharfe, riff-orientierte Gitarrenarbeit trifft auf ein von der Double-Bass-Drum angetriebenes Schlagzeug. Britischer Thrash eben.

XENTRIX rank among the veteran British thrash bands that have been active since the late eighties; their debut, Shattered Existence (1989), combined the technical precision of the Bay Area sound with a distinctly British directness—delivering a raw, clattering intensity. With For Whose Advantage? (1990), they sharpened their socially critical edge and established the blend of angular mid-tempo grooves and razor-sharp riffs.

With their third album, Kin (1992), XENTRIX made a somewhat jarring stylistic shift and delivered lackluster songs. The tracks lacked the energy and power that had come through so forcefully on the first two albums. It was as if someone had poured sugar into the XENTRIX power engine; the engine just sputtered along before finally suffering a total seizure.

Spectacular comeback

XENTRIX returned after many, many years, releasing the album Bury The Pain via Listenable Records in 2019. And man, did it kick ass. It was as if the XENTRIX engine had been cleaned out, fitted with new pistons, and tuned to rev up at full power once again. They didn’t slow down with Seven Words (2022), either; instead, they gave their sound a shot of nitro. And now, four years later, the next assault is set for October 30th.

New Single „Allied With The Enemy“

The release of 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙮 is still a few weeks away, but the single „Allied With The Enemy“ offers a taste of what’s to come. The album’s title track is a strong promise! It shows that the band is staying true to the sound they established upon their comeback and continues to go full throttle. Highly dynamic, aggressive, and focused, the guys deliver an absolutely killer track. A fun fact is that the song wasn’t actually planned for the album, but ended up becoming the title track. The band comments on „Allied With The Enemy“:

„Allied with the Enemy“ track was the last one we did for the album, we didn’t actually need any more for it at the time but then funnily enough, as it turned out, it soon became the album title track and first choice for a single release.

The general theme of the song is: „What if the biggest betrayal wasn’t just someone turning against you, but you being inadvertently turned to betray yourself?“

Lyrically, it’s written in a horror styling/slant with a subtle reference to the premise of the ‚Alien‘ films. Musically, it sits as a cross between Heavy Metal and Thrash Metal: sharp riff-based guitar attack over double bass-driven drums. British Thrash.
