Endlich Neuigkeiten von 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌! Ich habe schon länger keinen geilen Folk Metal mehr gehört und da kommt mir die Band aus den Niederlanden gerade recht. Sie haben ein neues Album in Arbeit (dazu später mehr) und haben jetzt ganz frisch ihre Single „De Overtocht“ veröffentlicht.

Mein Eindruck von „De Overtocht“

Der Song, welcher natürlich bereits in der Playlist ‚METALHEADs new stuff‚ enthalten ist, ist ein echter Knaller. Der Track entfaltet ein episches Erlebnis, das wirklich alles bietet, was man sich wünschen kann. Neben den melodischen, folkigen Elementen besitzt er einen knackigen Härtegrad, der sofort zündet. 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 kleiden ihren epischen Folk in eine schillernde, harte Rüstung; und führen dabei ein scharf geschliffenes Schwert.

Besonders stark wirkt der spätere Part mit den cleanen Vocals, der sich vollkommen organisch einfügt. Instrumental passiert im Songverlauf so unglaublich viel, dass man den Song mehrfach hören muss, um all die Details nach und nach zu entdecken. Und dennoch schaffen 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 es, den Track unheimlich eingängig wirken zu lassen.

Für mich ist „De Overdocht“ ein Meisterstück. Es ist ein Song, den ich problemlos in Dauerschleife laufen lassen kann. Abgerundet wird das Ganze durch ein grandios inszeniertes Video, das die Wucht des Songs visuell perfekt einfängt.

Interessant ist auch, was 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 über den Inhalt und Bedeutung des Songs sagen:

„De Overtocht“ (deutsch: Die Überfahrt) erzählt die Geschichte des Augenblicks, in dem sich jemand verliert: körperlich, geistig oder emotional, und in einem Nebel erwacht, einer Art Fegefeuer zwischen Leben und Tod. Der Song folgt einer inneren Reise durch Angst, Einsamkeit und Reue, auf der die Sehnsucht nach Liebe und Gesellschaft mit der aus Angst geborenen, selbst auferlegten Isolation kollidiert. Im Reich der Schatten kommt es zur Konfrontation: So will ich nicht verblassen. Was als Panik beginnt, verwandelt sich langsam in Klarheit und schließlich in einen neuen Hunger nach Leben. Es ist eine Geschichte darüber, gefangen zu sein, sich zu befreien und zu erkennen, dass das Leben trotz all deiner Ängste schöner ist, als du es dir jemals vorgestellt hast. Die Tragik besteht darin, die Schönheit des Lebens genau in dem Moment zu entdecken, in dem man erkennt, dass man nicht mehr dazu gehört, mit einer stillen, aber kraftvollen Botschaft: Öffne deine Augen, schätze, was du hast, sei freundlich zu deinen Mitmenschen und lebe deine Träume, bevor das Licht verblasst.

Mit dem zweiten Album haben wir wieder bei Null angefangen. Am Anfang braucht man einen Funken, eine Art Kickstart-Song, der einen dazu bringt, im gleichen Gefühl, Stil und in der gleichen Richtung weiterzuschreiben. ‚De Overtocht‘ war dieser Funke, weshalb es der erste Track war, mit dem wir begannen, und derjenige, der letztendlich die Richtung des gesamten Albums prägte.

Das Neue album 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩

Einen Wehrmutstropfen gibt es allerdings doch…. Erstim September 2026 werden 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 ihr zweites Konzeptalbum mit dem Titel 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩 über Fireflash Records veröffentlichen, zusammen mit einem neuen Banddesign und Texten, die eine tragische, emotionale, aber fesselnde Geschichte erzählen. Auf dem neuen Album sind Spitzenmusiker wie Coen Janssen von EPICA und Nils Fischer von ELUVEITIE zu hören, die den Sound der Band mit ihren Beiträgen auf allen neuen Tracks bereichert haben. Die niederländische Koryphäe in Sachen Symphonic und Melodic Metal, alias Joost van den Broek, produzierte, nahm das Album auf und mischte es ab, bevor es von der finnischen Mastering-Legende Mika Jussila in Helsinki gemastert wurde.

Angesichts solcher Fakten bin ich mir sehr sicher, dass 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩 ein grandioses Album werden wird. „De Overtocht“ als erste Single ist jedenfalls ein vielversprechender Vorbote und wenn dieser Song das Niveau des gesamten Albums widerspiegelt, dann wird es ein episches Folk-Meisterwerk. Dieser Song beweist, dass 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 in der Lage sind etwas zu erschaffen, was viele Folk‑/Pagan‑Metal‑Bands selten so souverän erreichen: epische Erzählkraft ohne Kitsch, Härte ohne stumpfe Brutalität, Eingängigkeit ohne Simplifizierung.

𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩 wird den Hörer in eine fesselnde Geschichte entführen, die von Reue, Verzweiflung, Hoffnung und Erlösung handelt. Eine musikalische Reise voller Überraschungen, eingebettet in eine niederländische Kulisse des 19. Jahrhunderts, die einen tief in ein Buch unerzählter Legenden hineinzieht. Der niederländische Gesang verleiht diesen Songs eine emotionale Ehrlichkeit, die jedes gesungene Wort direkt unter die Haut geht. Mit einer mitreißenden Mischung aus symphonischer Härte, eleganten, folk-inspirierten Melodien und erdigen Death-Metal-Riffs repräsentiert „Roede voor de Borst“ die nächste Stufe von 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 und ein neues Niveau des epischen Folk-Metal.

Finally, some news from 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌! It has been a while since I last heard truly great folk metal, and the band from the Netherlands arrives at exactly the right moment. They are working on a new album (more on that later) and have just released their brand‑new single “De Overtocht”.

my impression of „De Overtocht“

The song, which is of course already included in the METALHEADs new stuff playlist, is an absolute banger. The track unfolds an epic experience that truly offers everything one could wish for. Alongside its melodic, folk‑inspired elements, it carries a crisp level of heaviness that hits immediately. 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 dress their epic folk in a shimmering, hardened suit of armor and wield a sharply honed sword.

The later section with the clean vocals is particularly strong, blending in completely organically. Instrumentally, so much happens throughout the song that you have to listen to it several times to uncover all the details one by one. And yet, 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 manage to make the track sound incredibly catchy.

For me, “De Overtocht” is a masterpiece. It’s a song I can easily play on repeat without ever getting tired of it. The whole experience is rounded off by a brilliantly staged video that captures the power of the track perfectly on a visual level.

It is also interesting to see what 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 have to say about the content and meaning of the song:

“De Overtocht” (english: the crossing) tells the story of the very moment in which someone becomes lost — physically, mentally, or emotionally — and awakens in a fog, a kind of purgatory between life and death. The song follows an inner journey through fear, loneliness, and regret, where the longing for love and companionship collides with self‑imposed isolation born from fear.

In this realm of shadows, a confrontation takes place: I refuse to fade away like this. What begins as panic slowly transforms into clarity and, ultimately, into a renewed hunger for life. It is a story about being trapped, breaking free, and realizing that life — despite all your fears — is more beautiful than you ever imagined.

The tragedy lies in discovering the beauty of life at the very moment you understand that you no longer belong to it, carrying a quiet yet powerful message:
Open your eyes, appreciate what you have, be kind to those around you, and live your dreams before the light fades.

With the second album, we started again from scratch. In the beginning, you need a spark — a kind of kickstart song that pushes you to continue writing in the same feeling, style, and direction. “De Overtocht” was that spark, which is why it was the first track we began working on and the one that ultimately shaped the direction of the entire album.

The new album 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩

There is, however, one small downside…
Not until September 2026 will 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 release their second concept album , titled 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩, (via Fireflash Records) accompanied by a new band design and lyrics that tell a tragic, emotional, yet captivating story. The new album features top‑tier musicians such as Coen Janssen of EPICA and Nils Fischer of ELUVEITIE, who have enriched the band’s sound with their contributions across all new tracks.

The Dutch authority in symphonic and melodic metal, Joost van den Broek, produced, recorded, and mixed the album before it was mastered in Helsinki by Finnish mastering legend Mika Jussila.

In light of these facts, I am very confident that 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩 will become a magnificent album. “De Overtocht” as the first single is certainly a promising harbinger, and if this track reflects the overall level of the album, it will be an epic folk masterpiece. This song proves that 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐌 are capable of creating something that many folk and pagan metal bands rarely achieve with such confidence: epic storytelling without kitsch, heaviness without blunt brutality, and catchiness without simplification.

𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩 will take the listener into a captivating story shaped by remorse, despair, hope, and redemption. It is a musical journey full of surprises, set against a 19th‑century Dutch backdrop that pulls you deep into a book of untold legends. The Dutch vocals give these songs an emotional honesty that sends every word straight under the skin.

With a powerful blend of symphonic heaviness, elegant folk‑inspired melodies, and earthy death‑metal riffs, 𝙍𝙤𝙚𝙙𝙚 𝙫𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙩 represents the next stage of VANAHEIM and a new level of epic folk metal.
