Macht euch bereit:

RIPPER machen keine Gefangenen!

Was erwartet mich hier?

Ohne Vorwarnung, ohne Gnade!

Also ganz im Ernst: 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 kennen keinen Rückzug.

Auch „The Source Exterminator“ macht da keine Ausnahme.

𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 hail from Chile, and they’ve taken their sweet time before striking again after Experiment of Existence (2016). Ten years of silence, ten years of fermentation, ten years in which something dark, furious, and merciless was brewing. Now the moment has come: the band is back. And they’re not doing it quietly. Hey folks, get ready!

RIPPER take no prisoners!

They’ve come to unleash hell. Their new album 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 is not just a comeback, it’s an act of annihilation. A whirlwind of Death and Thrash that blows your brain out of your skull without warning. Precise, brutal, uncompromising. This is South American extreme metal in its purest, most dangerous form.

The intro, „The Secular Awakening“, has to be some kind of joke, or perhaps a deliberately placed, devious piece of bait. Swirling synths that could have come straight out of an 80s B-movie horror flick raise the curtain. You sit there, slightly bewildered, asking yourself: What is this? What am I in for?

But before you can even fully process that thought, 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 strikes. Without warning, without mercy! „World of Darkness“ is an act of destruction, an immediate battle. The song suddenly drags you into an inferno that descends upon you like a barrage of heavy fire. The band unleashes everything they have: blistering riffs, drums hammering through the bars like a machine gun, and vocals that relentlessly reflect the impending doom. There is no time to get your bearings, no grace period, no room to breathe. Just pure, unbridled aggression.

But before you can even finish that thought, 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 strike. Without warning, without mercy. “World of Darkness” is an act of destruction, an immediate battle. The song suddenly drags you into an inferno that crashes down on you like relentless artillery fire. The band fires on all cylinders: frantic riffs, drums hammering through the measures like a machine gun, and vocals that reflect the looming catastrophe without restraint. There is no orientation here, no grace period, no room to breathe.

Only pure, unbridled aggression.

Good thing I can relax a little during “Towards Rebirth.” The almost epic‑sounding intro feels massive, yet restrained in tempo. Powerful drums, a strong bass, and melodic guitar leads rise up and promise something big. And that promise is fulfilled. Because suddenly the leads shoot through the song like projectiles, ripping the song out of its majestic posture and accelerating it to supersonic speed. The drums transform into an inferno: an unstoppable storm that crushes everything in its path. The bass pumps like an engine on the verge of exploding.

Seriously, 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 know no retreat. There is no pausing here, no catching your breath, no “let’s slow things down“. This album is a permanent assault. I get the feeling the band is in a truly demonic frenzy: a state in which they don’t simply play, they burn.

They fire off their songs with a vehemence that’s almost frightening. This isn’t normal aggression — this is obsession. You only play like this when you’re driven by demons. And honestly, I seriously wonder how anyone is supposed to survive a live show with this level of intensity. If 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 unleash this on stage the same way they do on 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝, then it’s not a concert, it’s a fight for survival. For the band. For the audience. For anyone who dares to step into this maelstrom.

And despite all this unrestrained aggression, 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 still manage to give each song its own individual trademarks. Admittedly, they don’t jump straight at you — the adrenaline level is simply too high for that — but they’re there. If you manage to keep your head still for even a moment (which is genuinely difficult with this album), you begin to notice the technical subtleties hidden throughout the sound. Small rhythmic shifts, delicate lead fragments, bass lines that do far more than just provide a foundation.

This may be pure, raw savagery, but it’s not mindless hammering. It’s aggression with architecture. Rage with structure. Craftsmanship inside a firestorm. 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 play as if they’re possessed, but they play precisely possessed. And that’s exactly what makes 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 so dangerously good.

„The Source Exterminator“ is no exception to this. 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 continue to hack their way through the entire album with merciless ferocity, as if there were no tomorrow. Any hope of a reprieve fades with every passing second, and eventually, you have to face the truth: if you want to survive this musical apocalypse, you have to give everything. But then… calm sets in—starting at the 3:05 mark with a brief, measured passage—only for the machine-gun fire to erupt once more.

As much as I enjoy this musical apocalypse, I do find myself wishing for a song here and there that isn’t built entirely out of speed‑loaded rockets. The intro of the title track “Towards Rebirth” already showed me that 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 are absolutely capable of sounding just as mighty with less speed — and fully convincing while doing so. Moments like these prove that their strength doesn’t lie in tempo alone, but in the way they interlock atmosphere, pressure, and melody. Their craftsmanship also shines in the instrumental track “The Secret Dawn,” which delivers over six minutes of excellent entertainment.

„The End of Universe“ is a track where 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 actually dial back the tempo a bit more often—though, mind you, only in the intervals between bursts of intensity. Yet, it works. It gives the song moments to catch its breath before the band once again reduces everything to rubble. Even during these passages, however, you won’t want to stop headbanging. After all, truly catching your breath simply isn’t part of the plan with 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑. The band grants you no real respite—only moments to regroup before the next onslaught hits.

Conclusion

After ten years of silence, 𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 return with an album that shatters every expectation. 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 is no ordinary comeback, but an unleashed all-out assault that blazes from the first moment to the last. The band plays as if possessed: frenzied, precise, and merciless.

And yet, behind all this frenzy lies remarkable craftsmanship. Amidst the high-speed escalations, flashes of technical sophistication emerge—small melodic accents, rhythmic shifts, and basslines that do far more than merely provide support. 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 is an album that takes no prisoners, yet it is not one that simply bludgeons away blindly. It is a work of immense power and energy, an extreme album through and through that gives completely free rein to its raw, brutal aggression.

𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑 are back. Hard, fast, and dangerous! And after this album, only one realization remains: to survive this musical apocalypse, you must be ready to give everything.
