Ich bin nun auf eine sehr interessante Death Metal Band aufmerksam geworden. IAPETUS aus den U.S.A. haben jüngst ihre Single „Red Giant“ veröffentlicht (siehe auch Playlist METALHEADs new stuff). Auffallend war direkt die epische Spielzeit von 12 Minuten, die für Death Metal Verhältnisse schon außergewöhnlich üppig ist. Außerdem finde ich die Gastsängerin verlockend, denn es handelt sich um Fabienne Erni, die Mitglied der großartigen Band ELUVEITIE ist.

So erleben wir bei „Red Giant“ eine musikalische Reise, die von einer dichten Atmosphäre geprägt ist. Dazu tragen auch die schönen melodischen Vocals von Fabienne bei, welche kontrastierend zu den harschen Ausbrüchen von Matthew Cerami auftreten. Aber der Song lebt nicht nur von diesen gesanglichen Kontrasten, sondern auch von der gesamten instrumentalen Komposition und Darbietung, wie z.B. die wundervolle Gitarrenarbeit, welche dem Song ergreifende melodische Momente beschert. Im Laufe des Songs verfällt der Song ab der siebten Minute in eine melancholische Ebene, wo Fabienne zusammen mit Gastsänger Ethan Navarro zusammen agiert. Eine schöne Erfahrung in dem ansonsten sehr kraftvollen Song eine gewisse Verletzlichkeit einbringt.

Das neue Album von IAPETUS mit dem Titel 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙙 (Die mütterliche Leere.) erscheint am 16. Oktober über Willowtip. Neben den Kernmitgliedern Matthew Cerami und Jordan Navarro ist auf dem Album Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie) als Gastvokalistin zu hören; zudem wirken weitere namhafte Gastmusiker mit, darunter Schlagzeuger Brody Taylor Smith (Invent Animate), Gitarrist Benji Baret (Ne Obliviscaris) und Sänger Frank Harper (Caelestra).

Zum lyrischen Inhalt erklärt die Band:

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙙 ist die Geschichte einer Mutter und eines Sohnes, der Menschheit und des Kosmos; vom Gefühl, zum Scheitern verurteilt zu sein in einer Welt, die auf Zerstörung ausgelegt ist. Es ist ein Konzeptalbum, das als Ganzes erlebt werden will – der Abschluss einer Album-Trilogie, die sich dem Spannungsfeld zwischen sterblicher Existenz und unsterblichem Kosmos widmet. Es ist unser bislang persönlichstes Werk; sein Umfang wird nur von der Leidenschaft übertroffen, die seine Entstehung begleitete. Wir kämpfen uns heraus aus 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙙.

I’ve recently come across a very interesting death metal band. IAPETUS, from the USA, have just released their single „Red Giant“ (see also the „METALHEADs new stuff“ playlist). What immediately stood out was the epic 12-minute runtime—an exceptionally generous duration by death metal standards. I also find the guest vocalist compelling: it’s Fabienne Erni, a member of the fantastic band ELUVEITIE.

„Red Giant“ is a musical journey defined by a dense atmosphere. Fabienne’s beautiful, melodic vocals contribute to this, contrasting with Matthew Cerami’s harsh outbursts. Yet the song thrives not only on these vocal contrasts but also on the overall instrumental composition and performance, such as the wonderful guitar work that lends the track poignant melodic moments. Around the seven-minute mark, the song shifts into a melancholic phase where Fabienne performs alongside guest vocalist Ethan Navarro, introducing a touch of vulnerability to an otherwise very powerful track.

Willowtip will release the new opus, The Mother Void, on October 16. Joining core members Matthew Cerami and Jordan Navarro on the album is featured vocalist Fabienne Erni of Eluveitie, along with several notable guest musicians, including drummer Brody Taylor Smith (Invent Animate), guitarist Benji Baret (Ne Obliviscaris), and vocalist Frank Harper (Caelestra).

Regarding the lyrical content, the band explains:

The Mother Void is the story of a mother and a son; of mankind and the cosmos; of feeling destined to failure in a world designed to destroy. It is a conceptual record, meant to be digested in whole; the conclusion to a trilogy of albums dedicated to the tension between mortal existence and immortal space. It is our most personal record to date, and its scope is mirrored in size only by the passion that accompanied its creation. We claw from The Mother Void.
