Bei 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 hat sich vieles getan. Vom letzten Line-Up ist nur noch der Drummer übrig. Eine für mich unerwartete Meldung ist die Tatsache, dass die Extreme Metaller plötzlich beim Label Noble Demon untergekommen sind. Eine ungewöhnliche Verpflichtung für das Label, denn eine Deathcore-Band war dort bisher nicht vertreten. 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 stoßen mit viel Wucht eine neue Tür im Label‑Roster auf und erweitern dessen bisherige dunkle Klanglandschaft um eine zusätzliche, harsche Facette.

Patrick Walch (CEO Noble Demon) hatte die Band schon eine Weile auf dem Schirm, wie er sagt:

Nun… ich selber verfolge 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 ebenfalls schon eine Weile und war von ihrem Sound bisher sehr begeistert, der sehr reichhaltig vollgepackt war und atmosphärisch viel zu bieten hatte. Dafür arbeitete man gerne mal mit symphonischen Elementen, wodurch die Songs an epischer Größe und Dichte gewannen. So haben mir die Alben „Dark Secrets Of The Soul“ (2023) und „Vengeance“ (2025) sehr gut gefallen.

Was hat sich bei so vielen Veränderung beim Sound getan?

𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 klingen immer noch extrem, aber eben anders. Zumindest zeigt die neue Single „New Moon Rising On Florence“ sehr deutlich, wohin die Reise geht. Der einst so opulente, atmosphärisch dichte Sound hat spürbar an epischer Größe verloren, dafür aber eine neue, rohe Wucht gewonnen. Es ist keine komplette Neuausrichtung, sondern eine feine, aber entscheidende Verschiebung des Fokus.

Der Song knallt ohne Umwege durch, wirkt wilder, brutaler und weniger kontrolliert als das Material der vergangenen Jahre. Eine neue Form von Intensität, die nicht mehr über cineastische Größe funktioniert, sondern über pure, ungeschönte Aggression.

Die Neuausrichtung ist immer noch nachvollziehbar und authentisch. Ich komme auch mit diesem Stil super klar, auch wenn mir der Sound bisher super gefallen hat. Ich habe kein Problem damit, so lange 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 nicht an Intensität verlieren. Enwicklungen, gewisse Veränderung gehören immer zu einer Band hinzu. Und ich denke, dass 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 auch mit dem etwas anderen Sound ´die Fans begeistern werden. Und hier ist das erderschütternde Inferno „New Moon Rising On Florence“.

Thematisch taucht dieser Song und die gesamte EP tief in esoterische, biblische und dystopische Welten ein, wobei zahlreiche freimaurerische Bezüge verflochten werden. Im Mittelpunkt steht die mythologische Figur der ‚Strix‘, jenes uralten, nächtlichen Unheilsvogels. Florenz dient als Schauplatz dieses düsteren Rituals und symbolisiert eine neue, rebellische Weltsicht, in der uralte Schrecken in der heutigen Zeit wieder an die Oberfläche treten. Was die erste Single bereits angedeutet hat, wird durch die restlichen Songs der EP endgültig bestätigt: 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 konzentrieren sich kompromisslos auf pure musikalische Wucht und erzeugen Atmosphäre nicht mehr durch cineastische Schichten, sondern durch die Extreme selbst.

Sänger Manuel Riboldi schöpft dabei aus dem gesamten Spektrum extremer Vocals. Das ist nicht nur beeindruckend, sondern verleiht den Songs eine markante Varianz: finstere Tiefen, explosive Ausbrüche und rasendes Unheil wechseln sich ab und formen ein vokales Spannungsfeld, das die instrumentale Gewalt perfekt ergänzt. Und diese instrumentale Gewalt wird spektakulär in Szene gesetzt. Hier greift alles pefekt ineinander.

Die Band entfesselt eine instrumentale Macht, die eine unglaubliche dynamische Vehemenz erzeugt und einer zerstörerischen Naturgewalt gleicht. Der Opener „Neither Night Or Day“ bündelt all diese Charakteristika in radikaler Form. Er schraubt sich zu einer brutalen Manifestation der zerstörerischen Energie hoch, die einem den Boden unter den Füßen wegbröselt und die Tore zur Hölle öffnet.

Ich weiß, dass es schwierig ist, bei diesem Sound auf die Details zu achten. Aber 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 ist es gelungen, ihren Sound mit wichtigen Akzenten auszustatten, die dem Sound im Extreme‑Metal‑Bereich ein markantes und zugleich interessantes Profil verleihen. Man nehme z.B. den Song „The Heptad Omen“ mit seinen melodischen Passagen, während Sänger Manuel Riboldi seine infernalischen Schreie loslässt. Es ist egal, welchen Song man von der EP hört, denn jeder Song ist eine ungemein heftige Erfahrung. Das gilt somit auch für die Single „Groan From The IXth Circle“.

Fazit

Mit 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙭 präsentieren 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 eine EP, die ihre neue Identität kompromisslos offenlegt. Die Band verzichtet vollständig auf cineastische Ausschmückungen früherer Werke und setzt stattdessen auf rohe Energie, extreme Härte und eine Atmosphäre, die direkt aus den Extremen entsteht. Die starken Vocals von Manuel Riboldi und die instrumentale Vehemenz formen ein Werk voller kompromissloser Wucht.

𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 haben Mut bewiesen und ihrem Sound einen anderen Schliff verpasst. Dies ist in dieser Konsequenz und Umsetzung mehr als eindrucksvoll gelungen und besser kann man den Deathcore kaum umsetzen.

A lot has changed for 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑. From the previous line‑up, only the drummer remains. One piece of news that genuinely surprised me was the fact that the extreme metallers have suddenly signed with Noble Demon. It’s an unusual move for the label, as a deathcore band has never been part of their roster before. With considerable force, 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 are kicking open a new door within the label’s catalogue and expanding its dark sonic landscape with an additional, harsher facet.

Well…I’ve been following 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 for quite some time, and I’ve always been impressed by their sound, which used to be richly layered and full of atmospheric depth. The band often worked with symphonic elements that gave their songs a sense of epic scale and density. That’s exactly why I enjoyed the albums “Dark Secrets Of The Soul” (2023) and “Vengeance” (2025) so much.

WAT HAPPENED TO THE SOUND?

𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 still sound extreme, but in a different way – at least the new single “New Moon Rising On Florence” makes it very clear where the band is heading. The once opulent, atmospherically dense sound has noticeably lost some of its epic scale, but in return it has gained a new, raw force. It’s not a complete reinvention, but rather a subtle yet decisive shift in focus.

The track hits straight without detours, sounding wilder, more brutal, and far less restrained than the band’s material from recent years. It’s a new kind of intensity that no longer relies on cinematic grandeur, but on pure, unfiltered aggression.

The band’s realignment still feels coherent and authentic. I get along very well with this new direction, even though I’ve always enjoyed their previous sound. I have no issue with change, as long as 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 don’t lose their intensity. Developments and certain shifts are simply part of a band’s natural evolution. And I think DROWN IN SULPHUR will thrill fans with their slightly different sound, too. And here is the earth-shattering inferno „New Moon Rising On Florence“.

What the first single hinted at is definitively confirmed by the rest of the EP’s tracks: 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 focus uncompromisingly on sheer musical force, creating atmosphere not through cinematic layers, but through the extremes themselves.

Vocalist Manuel Riboldi draws upon the full spectrum of extreme vocal styles. This is not only impressive but lends the songs a striking range: sinister lows, explosive outbursts, and frenzied chaos alternate to create a vocal dynamic that perfectly complements the instrumental violence. And that instrumental violence is showcased spectacularly; everything here meshes perfectly.

The band unleashes an instrumental power that generates incredible dynamic intensity, akin to a destructive force of nature. The opener, „Neither Night Or Day“, encapsulates all these characteristics in their most radical form. It builds to a brutal manifestation of destructive energy—crumbling the ground beneath your feet and throwing open the gates of hell.

I know it is difficult to focus on the details amidst a sound like this. However, 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 has succeeded in enriching its sound with elements that give it a distinctive yet compelling profile within the extreme metal world. Take, for instance, the song „The Heptad Omen“ with its melodic passages set against Manuel Riboldi’s infernal screams. It makes no difference which track you listen to; every song is an immensely intense experience. This certainly applies to the single „Groan From The IXth Circle“ as well.

Conclusion

With 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙭, 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 present an EP that uncompromisingly reveals their new identity. The band completely eschews the cinematic embellishments of earlier works, opting instead for raw energy, extreme heaviness, and an atmosphere born directly from those extremes. Manuel Riboldi’s powerful vocals and the instrumental intensity combine to create a work of uncompromising force.

𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐏𝐇𝐔𝐑 have shown courage by giving their sound a new edge. The execution is more than impressive in its consistency and delivery; it is hard to imagine a better take on deathcore.
