Eigentlich hatte ich mit den Veröffentlichungen für dieses Jahr abgeschlossen und wollt mich auf das kommende Jahr konzentrieren, aber da grätscht mir noch so ein starkes Album rein und ich komme nicht drum herum, einige Worte darüber zu verlieren. 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 mit ihrem Album 𝘿𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙄𝙣 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨 haben mich dazu gebracht. Die norwegische Band war mit ihren Singles schon regelmäßig zu Gast bei der Playlist METALHEADs new stuff, auch mit der neusten Single „Down In Flames“. Und das nicht ohne Grund.

𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 klingen einfach großartig und schenken uns einen Sound, der eine Mischung zwischen Hardrock und Alternative Metal hervorbringt. Die knackige druckvolle Produktion des Albums leistet ebenfalls einen wertvollen Beitrag, um alles zu einem Hörgenuss zu formen. Also überzeugt euch doch gleich mit der aktuellen Single, dem Titeltrack „Down In Flames“.

Mit einem forschen Beat und markantem effektivem Riffing kommt die Sache schon mal gut ins rollen. Dies verpasst dem Stück eine gewisse Dringlichkeit, fast so, als würde es den Hörer am Kragen packen und mitziehen. Die eingängigen Melodien werden super von Sängerin Charlotte Marlen Midtun begleitet. Ihr schöne Stimme sorgt für ein wunderbares Hörgefühl, aber sie kann auch aus sich herauskommen und mehr Power in die Stimme geben, was man hier deutlich beim Finale des Songs spüren kann.

Es sagt mir sehr zu, dass man immer wieder mit knackigen Riffs dem Sound eine raue Note verpasst, damit es nicht zu glatt wirkt, was auch exzellent mit den Vocals funktioniert. Charlotte singt melodisch genug, um die Songs sofort zugänglich zu machen, aber sie hat auch diese kraftvolle Seite, die perfekt mit den Gitarren verzahnt. Dadurch entsteht ein Wechselspiel, das den Hörer ständig in Bewegung hält. Man wird mitgezogen, aber auch angestachelt. 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 ziehen so gekonnt die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich. Es ist ein Sound, bei dem man einfach nicht regungslos bleiben kann.

Und wenn es dann doch eine Ballade sein muss, dann muss sie so zauberhaft klingen wie „One Last Time“. Einleitende Pianoklänge funktionieren dabei immer wunderbar. Eine traumhafte Ballade, die mich wirklich berührt, was vor allem der super Gesangsperformance geschuldet ist, bei der Sängerin Charlotte die Gefühle mal emotional zart und dann kraftvoll in dein Herz singt. Eine traumhafte Ballade mit echter emotionaler Resonanz, die nicht aus Kitsch entsteht, sondern aus einer glaubwürdigen, optimal dosierten Performance.

Direkt im Anschluss folgt mit „Forsaken“ wieder ein Knaller, bei dem 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 die Zügel komplett loslassen und einen wilden Ritt hinlegen. Ein Song, der mit seiner mitreißenden Art keine Kompromisse macht. Es hat diese Mischung aus Präzision und Wildheit, die richtig Spaß macht. Ein Song, der nicht fragt, ob du bereit bist, sondern dich einfach mitnimmt. Alleine das Riffing ist super gelungen und lässt mich frohlocken. Was mich stutzig macht, ist das Video zu diesem Song. Ein ruhiger entspannter Spaziergang würde mir bei diesem Song jedenfalls nicht in den Sinn kommen, denn der Song ist voller Action und rockt wie Sau.

Und wenn ich so denke, dass mich nichts mehr überraschen könnte, kommt der Song „Those Wasted Years“ daher. Die Überraschung lässt ein wenig auf sich warten, aber wie Sängerin Charlotte dann ab Minute 03:20 kurz eskaliert, hat mich dann doch umgehauen. Charlotte lässt plötzlich eine Seite von sich raus, die vorher nur angedeutet war. Es ist eine dunklere, schärfere und ungezähmte Facette, fast wie ihr böser Zwilling. Aber hört selbst…

Fazit

Mit 𝘿𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙄𝙣 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨 liefern 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 ein super starkes Debüt ab. Die Band versteht es meisterhaft, knackige Riffs und hochmelodische Eingängigkeit zu verbinden, ohne dabei an Rauheit oder Charakter einzubüßen. Frontfrau Charlotte Marlen Midtun erweist sich als echtes Ass im Ärmel: Ihre Stimme reicht von zart berührend bis kraftvoll eruptiv und verleiht jedem Song eine eigene emotionale Tiefe.

Ob energiegeladene Brecher wie „Forsaken“, der mitreißende Titeltrack oder die traumhaft schöne Ballade „One Last Time“, dieses Album hält den Hörer ständig in Bewegung. Und wenn man glaubt, alles gehört zu haben, überrascht ein Song wie „Those Wasted Years“ mit einer unerwarteten stimmlichen Eskalation, die zeigt, wie viel Facettenreichtum in dieser Band steckt. Ein Debüt, das rockt, berührt und Lust auf mehr macht.

I had actually finished with this year’s releases and wanted to focus on the coming year, but then this great album came along and I can’t help but say a few words about it. 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 with their album 𝘿𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙄𝙣 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨 made me do it. The Norwegian band has been a regular guest on the METALHEAD’s new stuff playlist with their singles, including their latest single “Down In Flames“. And not without reason.

𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 sound fantastic and give us a sound that is a mixture of hard rock and alternative metal. The crisp, powerful production of the album also makes a valuable contribution to creating an enjoyable listening experience.

With a brisk beat and striking, effective riffing, the title track “Down In Flames” gets off to a good start. This gives the song a certain intensity, almost as if the listeners grab in the neck by and pulling them along. The catchy melodies are accompanied superbly by singer Charlotte Marlen Midtun. Her beautiful voice makes for a wonderful listening experience, but she can also put more power into her voice, which can be clearly felt here in the song’s finale.

I really like how they keep adding crunchy riffs to give the sound a rough edge so it doesn’t come across as too smooth, which also works excellently with the vocals. Charlotte sings melodically enough to make the songs instantly accessible, but she also has this powerful side that meshes perfectly with the guitars. This creates an interplay that keeps the listener constantly moving. You get carried away, but also fired up. 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 skillfully draw attention to themselves. It’s a sound that simply won’t let you remain motionless.

And if it has to be a ballad, then it has to sound as enchanting as “One Last Time“. Introductory piano sounds always work wonderfully here. A dreamlike ballad that really touches me, mainly thanks to the superb vocal performance, with singer Charlotte singing the emotions into your heart, sometimes tenderly, sometimes powerfully. A dreamlike ballad with genuine emotional resonance that doesn’t come across as cheesy, but rather as a credible, perfectly balanced performance.

This is immediately followed by another banger, “Forsaken“, in which 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 completely lets go of the reins and takes us on a wild ride. It’s a song that makes no compromises with its rousing style. It has this mixture of precision and wildness that is really fun. A song that doesn’t ask if you’re ready, but just takes you along for the ride. The riffing is superb and makes me rejoice. What puzzles me is the video for this song. A quiet, relaxed walk would certainly not come to mind with this song, because the song is full of action and rocks like hell.

And just when I think nothing could surprise me anymore, the song “Those Wasted Years“ comes on. The surprise takes a while to kick in, but when singer Charlotte briefly escalates at 3:20, it blows me away. Charlotte suddenly reveals a side of herself that had only been hinted at before. It’s a darker, sharper, and untamed facet, almost like her evil twin. But listen for yourself…

Conclusion

With 𝘿𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙄𝙣 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨, 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐆𝐎𝐖 𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 delivers super strong debut. The band masterfully combines crisp riffs and highly melodic catchiness without losing any of their roughness or character. Singer Charlotte Marlen Midtun proves to be a real deal: her voice ranges from delicately touching to powerfully eruptive, giving each song its own emotional depth.

Whether it’s energetic smash hits like “Forsaken“, the rousing title track, or the dreamlike ballad “One Last Time“, this album keeps the listener constantly on the move. And just when you think you’ve heard it all, a song like “Those Wasted Years” surprises you with an unexpected vocal escalation that shows just how multifaceted this band is. A debut that rocks, touches, and leaves you looking for more.
