𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝙀𝙋 „𝙒𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙐𝙥 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙙“

𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 stehen für frischen Wind in der schwedischen Rock-Szene. Hinter dem Namen stecken die Brüder Leo (vocals) und Sam Mårtensson (guitar), Drummer John Danielsson und Bassist Alvin Hilmersson. Ihr Ziel ist klar gesteckt: Sie wollen den unbezähmbaren Spirit des Classic Rock ins Hier und Jetzt verfrachten. Musikalische Gene sind reichlich vorhanden, denn Erik Mårtensson (Frontmann von ECLIPSE) hat den Brüdern die Rock-DNA direkt in die Wiege gelegt. Als ECLIPSE die Jungs als Support mit auf Tour nahmen, ließen sich 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 nicht zweimal bitten und überzeugten auf ganzer Linie mit energiegeladenen Shows.

Mir persönlich sind 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 das erste Mal 2025 mit ihrer Single „Hear Me Out“ aufgefallen…und haben direkt mächtig Eindruck hinterlassen. Da wurde mir in gerade einmal 2:40 Minuten stürmisch von einem Songtornado die Ohren durchgeblasen. Schlicht, aber verdammt wirkungsvoll. Manchmal liegt der Spaß eben genau in dieser Einfachheit.

Es wurden noch die Singles „To The City“ und „Monkey See, Monkey Do“ veröffentlicht. All die bisher genannten Singles sind aber nicht Teil der kommenden EP 𝙒𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙐𝙥 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙙, die 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 am 16. Oktober rausknallen werden. Verstehe ich nicht so ganz, aber nun gut… Also was für Songs erwarten uns auf der EP

𝙒𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙐𝙥 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙙 ?

Mit „Wannabe Rockstar“ verarbeiten sie ihren Traum ein Rockstar zu werden. Textlich bedienen sie augenzwinkernd das volle Klischee-Programm aus Sex, Drugs & Rock ’n‘ Roll und exzessivem Party-Mantra. Doch hinter den Augenzwinkern steckt eine glasklare Ansage, nämlich der unbedingte Wille, es von Null auf Hundert nach oben zu schaffen.

Und warum sollten sie dieses Ziel eigentlich nicht erreichen? Die Songs sind allesamt durchweg spritzig, unbeschwert und zeugen von einer ungemein sympathischen Leichtigkeit. Dabei geben sich 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 erfreulich vielseitig: Sie bewegen sich völlig gewollt im klassischen Rock-Terrain, klingen aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt angestaubt. In jeder Sekunde spürt man die pure Energie und das sprichwörtliche Feuer dieser jungen Band.

Das gilt genauso für das äußerst flippig-verrückte „My Oh My“ mit seinen nervösen, wilden Gitarren oder auch für „WTF“, das ein wenig gesetzter und melodischer auftritt, aber mit einem extrem starken Solo begeistert. Und dann ist da noch der flotte, griffige Titeltrack „Wake Up Dead“: Der klingt wunderbar fröhlich und sorgt schlichtweg für maximal gute Laune.

Textlich verbirgt sich dahinter allerdings ein düsterer Abgesang auf zerbrochene Illusionen und Herzschmerz. Dieser spannende Kontrast zwischen bittersüßem Text und mitreißendem Party-Ohrwurm-Charme zeigt, wie gekonnt die Band mit Stimmungen spielt. Anstatt sich in einer Herzschmerz-Ballade und Trauer zu verlieren, packen 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 die klassische Rock-’n’-Roll-Attitüde aus: Der fröhliche, aufmunternde musikalische Rahmen ist kein Verdrängen, sondern die klare Entscheidung, sich nicht unterkriegen zu lassen.

Ich bin mir sicher, dass wir in Zukunft noch viele tolle Songs von 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 hören werden – und ich bin einfach froh, dass die neue Generation an Rockbands die Fahne des Old-School-Rock weiterhin so stolz hochhält!

𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 represent a breath of fresh air in the Swedish rock scene. Behind the name are brothers Leo (vocals) and Sam Mårtensson (guitar), drummer John Danielsson, and bassist Alvin Hilmersson. Their goal is clear: they want to bring the untamed spirit of classic rock into the here and now. Musical genes are in rich supply, as Erik Mårtensson (frontman of ECLIPSE) passed the rock DNA directly down to the brothers. When ECLIPSE took the young band on tour as support, 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 didn’t hesitate for a second and delivered all down the line with high-energy shows.

I personally first noticed 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 in 2025 with their single „Hear Me Out“… and they made a huge impression right away. In just 2:40 minutes, a raging song tornado blew right through my ears. Simple, but damn effective. Sometimes the fun simply lies in that very simplicity.

The singles „To The City“ and „Monkey See, Monkey Do“ were also released. However, none of the previously mentioned singles are part of the upcoming EP 𝙒𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙐𝙥 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙙, which 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 will drop on October 16th. I don’t quite get that, but oh well… So, what kind of songs can we expect on the EP

𝙒𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙐𝙥 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙙 ?

With „Wannabe Rockstar“, they process their dream of becoming rockstars. Lyrically, they serve up the full cliché package of sex, drugs & rock ’n‘ roll and an excessive party mantra with a tongue-in-cheek nod. But behind the wink lies a crystal-clear statement: the absolute determination to rise from zero to a hundred.

And why shouldn’t they actually achieve this goal? The songs are all thoroughly vibrant, carefree, and display an incredibly likable lightness. At the same time, 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 show a pleasing versatility: they intentionally move within classic rock territory, yet never sound dusty at any point. In every second, you can feel the pure energy and the proverbial fire of this young band.

The same goes for the extremely wild and funky „My Oh My“ with its frantic, energetic guitars, or „WTF“, which comes across a bit more grounded and melodic, but thrills with a killer solo. And then there is the fast-paced, catchy title track „Wake Up Dead“: it sounds wonderfully upbeat and simply puts you in a great mood.

Lyrically, however, it conceals a dark swansong to shattered illusions and heartbreak. This exciting contrast between bittersweet lyrics and infectious party-earworm charm shows just how skillfully the band plays with moods. Instead of losing themselves in a heartbreak ballad and grief, 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 pull out the classic rock ’n‘ roll attitude: the upbeat, encouraging musical framework is not denial, but a clear decision not to let themselves be kept down.

I am sure that we will hear many more great songs from 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 in the future – and I am simply glad that the new generation of rock bands continues to fly the flag of old-school rock so proudly!
