Der Wahnsinn, was im Ruhrpott so abgeht. Nach wie vor ein Metal-Schmelztiegel! Viele geile Events und auch hammerharte Releases, aktuell vor allem im Thrash-Metal-Sektor. Vor kurzem wurde hier erst das Album Threshold Of Apocalypse von DESTROY THEM vorgestellt und schon kündigt sich die nächste Abrissbirne in Form von 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 der Gladbecker Band 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 an. Das ist der absolute Thrash Overkill!

Für 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 ist es quasi eine Wiederauferstehung. Zwei Mitglieder hatten die Band hatten 2022 verlassen, nachdem sie umziehen mussten. Denn so ein Umstand ist immer schlecht für Live-Gigs. Und 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 hatten sich bis dahin als absolute Killer-Live-Band etabliert. So sind mit Nico Iserloh an den Drums und Ivan Almeida an der Lead Gitarre zwei langjährige Freunde der Band eingestiegen, um wieder volle Kanne angreifen zu können. Und das tun sie!

𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 sind ein weiterer Garant für geradlinigen feurigen Thrash Metal alter Machart, der euch um die Ohren geballert wird. Wer sich davon mal live überzeugen will, muss gar nicht allzu lange warten, denn am 21.02.’26 findet in Gladbecker Dröhnschuppen die Release-Show statt. Tickets im Vorverkauf gibt es hier:

𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙!

Das Intro von 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 befasst sich mit dem damaligen Geiseldrama von 1988 in Gladbeck beschäftigt. Der Geiselnahme ging ein Bankraub voraus. Dieses Ereignis war eine Zäsur in der Bewältigung solcher Einsatzlagen. Die Polizei war völlig überfordert und die Medien trugen wegen Sensationsgeilheit maßgeblich zum dramatischen Verlauf bei, wobei am Ende tragischerweise die Geisel Silke Bischoff beim polizeilichen Zugriff getötet wurde.

Nach dem Intro entlädt sich dann die geballter Energie mit dem Song „Hostage“. Es ist der erste von acht Raketen, die euch durch die Ohren gejagt werden und ihr Treibstoff ist Wut. Dementsprechend aggressiv prügeln sich die Jungs durch die Songs, dass es nur so kracht. Dies meistern sie mit einer bewundernswerten Ausdauer, denn Erholung ist hier absolute Fehlanzeige. Das wird nicht nur die Band auf der Bühne beim einem Gig zum schwitzen bringen.

Gesanglich schnibbelt sich Philip mit wütender Aggression und gefährlicher Schärfe durch die Songs. Die Riffs sind wildgewordene Kettensägen, welche alles zu Kleinholz verarbeiten, während der Bass für den nötigen kraftvollen Schwung sorgt und die Drums im Dauerfeuermodus agieren. Das sind die Zutaten für gelungenen old school Thrash Metal, die hier in furioser Art und Weise ein ums andere Mal vereint werden.

Hier sei z.B. das High-Speed-Rock n Roll-Solo beim Song „Hostage“ genannt. Und gerade bei den überlangen Tracks wie dem Titeltrack „Cheap Food“ tobt man sich instrumental besonders ausgiebig aus und gerät dabei in völlige Ekstase. Auch melodische Leads wie beim Song „Redistribution“ gehören zu den Darbietungen, welche dazu beitragen den Songs ein besonderes Gütesiegel zu verpassen. „Redistribution“ ist auch einer meiner Lieblinge auf dem Album ohne die Qualität der anderen Songs mindern zu wollen.

Hierbei bereichert auch „Witches Rock n Roll“ mit seiner witzigen Idee das unterhaltsame Set. Denn der Song huldigt dem gleichnamigen Debüt aus dem Jahr 2015. Zu diesem besonderen Anlass wurde ein kleines Gemeinschaftsprojekt daraus gemacht. Rob (𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓), Marius (𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐇) und Rob (𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍) tragen dazu bei, dass dieser wilde Hexenritt noch mal ne Spur fieser und irrer wird.

„Eviscerating Surgery“ ist einer der Sechs-Minuten-Smasher und man hat das Gefühl, dass sich die Band in eine wahre Ekstase spielt und sich immer weiter selber anstacheln. Sie treten das Gaspedal volle Kanne durch und geraten in einen Rausch, der keinen Rückzug duldet. Man hält nur mal kurz für nen Pit-Stop an, um den Motor kurz abzukühlen, sich ne Kanne am Straßenrand zu gönnen, nur um dann wieder im Vollgasmodus den Asphalt glühen zu lassen.

„Fight the Reaper“ beginnt mit einem wilden rockigen Style, aber dann bekommt man es wieder ganz fies in die Fresse. Die rockigen Vibes kommen aber zwischendurch wieder zum Vorschein, gerade was das Solo angeht. Ich begrüßte das, denn das sorgt für ein wenig Auflockerung.

Mit dem letzten Track „Give em Hell“ zeigen 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑, dass es nicht immer nur Vollgas sein muss, auch wenn hier natürlich auch durchgezündet wird. Bei „Give em Hell“ demonstriert die Band vor allem, was sie instrumental so drauf haben. Besonders die Gitarren dürfen sich mal ausgiebiger austoben. Gelungener Abschluss des Albums!

Fazit

𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 sind richtige Gönner und schenken mit 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 reichlich wohlschmeckenden berauschenden Thrash ein, zünden das Ganze zwischendurch noch zusätzlich mit hochprozentigem Feuerwasser. Dabei treten sie gnadenlos auf’s Tempo, können aber auch mal leicht abbremsen, ohne dabei ihre mitreißende Energie zu verlieren. Somit haben wir wieder einmal ein absolut gelungene Thrash-Höllenfahrt aus dem Ruhrpott am Start, so dass sich 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 mit durchschlagender Power locker in die Reihe hochkarätiger Thrash-Metal-Alben prügelt.

It’s insane what’s going on in the German Ruhr area. Still a metal melting pot! Tons of awesome events and killer releases, especially in the thrash metal scene right now. Just recently, DESTROY THEM’s album Threshold Of Apocalypse was released, and already the next wrecking ball is on the horizon in form of 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 from 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑. This is absolute thrash overkill!

For 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑, it’s practically a resurrection. Two band members left in 2022 after having to move in another area. Such circumstances are always bad for live gigs. And 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 had established themselves as an absolute killer live band by then. Thus, with Nico Iserloh on drums and Ivan Almeida on lead guitar, two long-time friends of the band have joined in order to be able to attack again at full throttle.

𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙!

𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 are another guarantee for straightforward, fiery, old-school thrash metal that will be blasted around your ears. The intro to 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 deals with the hostage drama of 1988 in Gladbeck. The hostage-taking was part of a bank robbery. This event marked a turning point in how such situations were handled in Germany. Backthen the police were unable to handle the situation, and the media, driven by sensationalism, significantly contributed to the dramatic course of this story, culminating tragically in the death of hostage Silke Bischoff during the final police action.

After the intro, all that pent‑up energy detonates with the track „Hostage“. It’s the first of eight missiles blasted straight through your ears, all of them fueled by pure rage. The guys tear through the songs with a level of aggression that hits like a brick to the face. They pull this off with downright impressive stamina. There’s zero room for recovery here. And believe me, it won’t just leave the band drenched in sweat; the fans will be soaked too.

Vocally, Philip slices his way through the tracks with furious aggression and a dangerous edge. The riffs roar like chainsaws gone feral, shredding everything into splinters, while the bass delivers the heavy punch that keeps the whole thing surging forward and the drums fire away in relentless rapid‑fire mode. These are the essential ingredients of proper old‑school thrash metal, and here they’re fused again and again in a downright furious fashion.

Take the high‑speed rock ’n’ roll solo in „Hostage“, for example. And when it comes to the longer tracks, especially the title track „Cheap Food“, the band goes absolutely wild instrumentally, slipping into full‑blown ecstasy. Melodic leads like the ones in „Redistribution“ are another highlight, giving the songs an extra seal of quality. „Redistribution“ is one of my personal favorites on the album, without taking anything away from the strength of the other tracks.

„Witches Rock n Roll“ also enriches the entertaining set with its concept, paying tribute to the band’s self‑titled 2015 debut. For this special occasion, they turned it into a small collaborative project: Rob (𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐓), Marius (𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐀𝐇) and Rob (𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍) all jump in to make this wild witch‑ride even nastier and more unhinged.

„Eviscerating Surgery“ is one of the six‑minute smashers, and you can feel the band whipping themselves into a state of pure ecstasy, pushing each other harder with every passing moment. They slam the pedal all the way down and spiral into a frenzy that allows no retreat. There’s only a brief pit stop to cool the engine and chug something at the roadside, just to jump right back into full‑throttle mode and set the asphalt on fire again.

„Fight the Reaper“ kicks off with a wild rock vibe, but then it smashes you in the face all over again. Those rock‑tinged moments crawl back in from time to time, especially in the solo. I’m all for it — it breaks up the brutality a bit.

With the final track „Give ’em Hell“, 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 show that it doesn’t always have to be full throttle, even though they still fire on all cylinders here. On „Give ’em Hell“, the band mainly demonstrates what they’re capable of instrumentally, with the guitars finally getting room to really go wild. A strong way to close the album.

Conclusion

𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 don’t hold back for a second. With 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 they pour a filthy, intoxicating load of thrash straight down your throat, and every now and then they torch the whole brew with some high‑proof firewater. They hammer the pedal mercilessly into the floor, yet they know exactly when to ease off just enough without losing a shred of that feral momentum. What we’ve got here is another raging thrash inferno forged in the German Ruhr area. 𝐓𝐄𝐔𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐑 manage to pound 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 into the ranks of top‑tier thrash metal albums with sheer, crushing power.
