𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 kommen aus Griechenland, haben sich 2013 gegründet und haben bereits zwei Alben veröffentlicht: 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 (2016) und 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙬 (2023). Ihre Musik bezeichnen sie selber als Thrash Death Metal mit viel Groove und Hardcore. Bevor ich auf die EP eingehe, noch einige Worte über die beiden Longplayer, denn…

…neugierig, wie ich bin, habe ich mir diese ebenfalls angehört. Und tatsächlich gehen 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 nicht zimperlich zur Sache. Auf dem Debüt 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 versprüht die Produktion echtes Proberaumfeeling, was gar nicht negativ gemeint ist. Der Sound ist nicht perfekt ausbalanciert oder in irgendeiner Form glattgebügelt, wie man es so schön sagt. Dadurch hat es einen extrem rohen Charme, der gut zur aggressiven wütenden Musik passt.

Auf 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙬 hört sich die Produktion dann schon professioneller an, aber den rohen Charme hat man sich bewahrt, aber es entwickelt sich mehr Druck und es sind mehr Details zu hören. Die Songs knallen düster und aggressiv. Rabiate Riffs und brutale Vocals gehören zu den Trademarks der Band. Hier gibt’s einfach nur hart in die Fresse. Da scheint nie die Sonne. Hört euch mal den Song „Swarm“ bis zum Ende an, aber nicht nur den, denn das ganze Album ist hammerhart! Auch der Opener „Broken“ ist ne heftige Ansage mit maximaler Durchschlagskraft.

Aber nun zu der kleinen EP 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 mit vier Tracks, von denen einer ein Instrumentalstück ist. „Screaming Through Scars“ macht den Einstieg und groovt fett los. Das hat schon etwas von Death ’n‘ Roll und mit dem zweiten Song „Silenced And Lost“ werde ich bestätigt. Die Songs auf 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 sind etwas anders vom Stil her.

„Silenced And Lost“ beginnt recht rockig und mit einem coolen Bass. Wäre auch perfekter Song für den Titty Twister in dem Film „From Dusk Till Dawn“ gewesen. Herrlich düster und unheimlich!

Ich bin schon überrascht, dass 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 auf der EP relativ gemäßigt agieren, was das Tempo angeht. Die Heavyness ist allerdings nach wie vor gegeben. Der Opener „Screaming Through Scars“ ist das dynamischste Stück, denn auch „Addiction“ und der Instrumentaltrack „Foreseen The Past“ sind langsamer unterwegs. Trotzdem sind es starke Songs mit einer massiven Ausstrahlung, die doomiger geprägt sind. Die würden alle wunderbar in den Soundtrack eines jeden beklemmenden Horrorfilms passen.

Der Instrumentaltrack „Foreseen The Past“ weist eine schöne Klimax auf. Es beginnt leicht melodisch melancholisch. Hätte ich von 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 niemals erwartet. Hört sich schön an. Langsam nimmt die Intensität zu, schwere zähe Riffs lösen die leichten cleanen Gitarrenklänge ab und ich bekomme sogar 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐓-Vibes geboten. Richtig geil! Mit dem Track haben mich 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 völlig überrascht.

Auf Nachfrage bzgl. der leichten Stiländerung auf der EP räumte die Band ein, dass man ein wenig experimentiert hätte ohne dabei ihre grundsätzlichen Trademarks zu verlieren. Ich finde das erfrischend und zeigt, dass die Band in nicht allzu engen Schubladen denkt. Das finde ich immer vorteilhaft.

𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 arbeiten übrigens an dem nächsten Album, wobei man schon einen Großteil der Songs fertig hat. Außerdem lässt man durchblicken, dass es wieder erheblich härter und extremer klingen wird. Man darf also gespannt sein, was wir da serviert bekommen.

𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 come from Greece, formed in 2013, and have already released two albums: 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 (2016) and 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙬 (2023). They describe their music as thrash death metal with a lot of groove and hardcore. Before I get into the EP, a few words about the two full-length albums, because…

Being curious, I listened to these as well. And indeed, 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 don’t hold back. On their debut album 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙, the production exudes a genuine rehearsal room feel, which isn’t meant negatively at all. The sound isn’t perfectly balanced or smoothed over in any way, as they say. This gives it an extremely rough charm that fits the aggressive, raw music in a good way.

On 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙬, the production sounds more professional, but the raw charm is still there. It builds more intensity and reveals more detail. The songs are dark and aggressive. Violent riffs and brutal vocals are among the band’s trademarks. This is pure, unadulterated aggression. There’s no light in their world. Listen to the song „Swarm“ all the way through, but not only that one, because the whole album is incredibly powerful! Even the opener „Broken“ is a forceful statement with maximum impact.

But now to the short EP 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 with four tracks, one of which is an instrumental. „Screaming Through Scars“ kicks things off with a killer groove. It definitely has a death ’n‘ roll feel to it, and the second song, „Silenced And Lost,“ confirms my impression. The songs on 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 are stylistically quite different.

„Silenced and Lost“ starts off quite rocky with a cool bassline. It would have been the perfect song for the Titty Twister in the film „From Dusk Till Dawn.“ Wonderfully dark and eerie!

I’m surprised that 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 operate at a relatively moderate tempo on this EP, even though the heaviness is still present. The opener, „Screaming Through Scars,“ is the most dynamic track, as „Addiction“ and the instrumental „Foreseen The Past“ are also slower. Nevertheless, they are powerful songs with a massive presence and a doomy feel. They would all fit perfectly into the soundtrack of any gripping horror film.

The instrumental track „Foreseen The Past“ has a nice climax. It begins with a slightly melodic, melancholic feel. I never would have expected that from 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃. It sounds beautiful. The intensity slowly increases, heavy, gritty riffs replace the light, clean guitar sounds, and I even get some 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐓-Vibes. Really cool! 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 completely surprised me with this track.

When asked about the slight change in style on the EP, the band admitted that they had experimented a bit without losing their fundamental trademarks. I find that refreshing and it shows that the band doesn’t think in overly narrow categories. I always find that a positive aspect.

𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃 are currently working on their next album, and many of the songs are already finished. They’ve also hinted that it will sound considerably heavier and more extreme. So we can all look forward to what they have in store for us.
