𝐌𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐍 stammen aus Essen im Ruhrgebiet und toben sich im Death Metal aus. Die Band gibt es schon seit 2006 und ihr 20-jähriges Jubiläum haben sie bei einer Release-Show standesgemäß im Kultclub TUROCK in Essen gefeiert. Und wenn ich mir die Bilder von dem Event auf dem Facebook-Account der Band so ansehe, dann muss das ne richtige Sause gewesen sein. An dieser Stelle möchte ich auch noch eine Empfehlung für das erste Album 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙 hinweisen, dass ein brettharter Kracher ist.

Der raue Sound gibt sich generell old school. Kein Geschnörkel, sondern hart und direkt in die Fresse. Hier wirkt nichts glatt geschliffen. Die raue Produktion unterstützt diesen Effekt und macht den Eindruck noch authentischer und bringt die rohe dystopische Substanz wirkungsvoll zum Ausdruck.

MY DOMINION haben Songmaterial, dass nicht nur gnadenlos hart durchschlägt, sondern auch für Stimmung sorgen kann. Man nehme z.B. den Song „Riot“. Eine schonungslose Abrechnung! Böse und unerbittlich! Sehr gelungen finde ich die stampfenden groovigen Passagen mit Doom-Einschlag im Wechsel mit wilden Ausbrüchen. Und so ein Part wie ab Minute 02:30 geht live natürlich immer gut.

Hat man auf dem letzten Album mitunter auch von cleanen Vocals Gebrauch gemacht, so ist das nun nicht mehr der Fall. Dieses Mal gibt es nur Vocals aus der Hölle. Der Mix aus groovigen Passagen, dystopischem Doom und wilden Eskapaden ist gelungen und sorgt für eine angenehme Dynamik und verschiedene Stimmungen. Allerdings hätte man die Individualität der Songs manchmal deutlicher herausstellen können, denn manche Songs sind dann doch kaum zu unterscheiden.

Dabei gibt es durchaus Ansätze, die Songs herausstechen lassen. Da wären die Songs „Desolation“ und der Opener „Extinction“. Hier bedient man sich an Synthies, die natürlich in dem ganzen brutalen Old-School-Konstrukt sofort auffallen. Bei „Desolation“ noch sehr dezent nur am Anfang einsetzt, so wird es beim Titeltrack „Extinction“ stärker genutzt; nicht zu viel, sondern so, dass es dem Song eine besondere Atmosphäre verpasst. Ein interessanter Ansatz, der sich für mich positiv auswirkt. Für mich ist „Extinction“ der stärkste Song auf dem Album.

Fazit

𝐌𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐍 ist mit 𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 eine krasse Ansage gelungen, die man nicht überhören kann. Ihre dystopischen Abrechnung wird mit schonungsloser Brutalität und Düsternis serviert. Dazu passt der old-school geprägte Sound und die raue Produktion, was dem Ganzen eine wirkungsvolle Authentizität verleiht.

Im Ganzen könnte man den Songs noch mehr Eigenschaften verleihen, die eine Unterscheidbarkeit einfacher machen. Hier sei die Idee mit den Synthies positiv hervorgehoben, die einen coolen atmosphärischen Effekt produzieren. Auch der Einsatz cleaner Vocals, die man noch auf dem Album 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙 einsetzte, wäre ein Stilmittel, um mehr Varianz zu erzeugen.

𝐌𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐍 come from Essen in the Ruhr area and let off steam with death metal. The band has been around since 2006 and celebrated their 20th anniversary in style at a release show for their new album 𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 at the cult club TUROCK in Essen. And judging by the pictures of the event on the band’s Facebook-Account, it must have been a real blast. At this point, I would also like to recommend their first album, 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙, which is also a hard hitting smasher.

The raw sound is generally old school. No frills, just hard and direct in your face. Nothing here is polished. The rough production supports this effect and makes the impression even more authentic, effectively expressing the raw dystopian substance.

𝐌𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐍 have song material that not only hits hard, but also sets the mood. Take the song “Riot,” for example. A relentless reckoning! Evil and unforgiving! I find the stomping, groovy passages with doom influences alternating with wild outbursts very successful. And a part like the one starting at 02:30 always goes down well live, of course.

While clean vocals were occasionally used on the last album, this is no longer the case. This time around, there are only vocals from hell. The mix of groovy passages, dystopian doom, and wild escapades is successful and creates a pleasant dynamic and different moods. However, the individuality of the songs could have been emphasized more clearly at times, as some songs are hardly distinguishable from one another.

There are definitely elements that make the songs stand out. Take the songs “Desolation” and the opener “Extinction,” for example. Here, synths are used, which naturally stand out immediately in the whole brutal old-school construct. While “Desolation” uses them very subtly only at the beginning, they are used more heavily on the title track ‘Extinction’; not too much, but just enough to give the song a special atmosphere. An interesting approach that has a positive effect on me. For me, “Extinction” is the strongest song on the album.

Conclusion

𝐌𝐘 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐍 has made a bold statement with 𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 that cannot be ignored. Their dystopian reckoning is served up with relentless brutality and darkness. This is complemented by the old-school sound and raw production, which lends the whole thing an effective authenticity.

Overall, the songs could be given even more characteristics that make them easier to distinguish. The idea of using synths to produce a cool atmospheric effect should be highlighted here. The use of clean vocals, which were also used on the album 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙, would be another stylistic device that could be used to create more variety.
