𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 𝙢𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙚𝙞𝙣 𝙣𝙚𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙆𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙡 𝙖𝙪𝙛

Die kanadische Metal-Band 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 verfolge ich seit dem Jahr 2020. Meine erste Erfahrung mit der Band war die EP Foundations, die mir gut gefallen hat. Vorher hatten sie im Jahr 2017 schon das Album Kingsbane veröffentlicht, aber im Jahr 2021 noch einmal remastered. Drei Songs hatte man dafür sogar komplett neu aufgenommen. Im Jahr 2022 folgte schließlich das Album Momentous, auf dem sie sehr eindrucksvoll ihre große Bandbreite und erstklassige Qualität zur Schau gestellt haben.

Nicht umsonst wurden 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 bei den Western Canadian Music Awards 2023 als Metal Band of the Year nominiert und im Laufe ihrer Karriere standen sie mit weltbekannten Acts auf der Bühen, wie NIGHTWISH, INSOMNIUM, EVERGREY, DARK TRANQUILLITY, KAMELOT, DRAGONFORCE, AMORPHIS, KREATOR, DESTRUCTION und HYPOCRISY.

Auffällig war schon immer, dass 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 technisch sehr versiert auftreten und das Songwriting auch komplexe bzw. progressive Züge aufweisen können. 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍lassen sich in keine Schublade stecken. Von zarten Melodien bis hin zu extrem harten Ausbrüchen ist alles vorhanden. All dies bereitet dem hervorragenden Sänger Reed Alton keinerlei Probleme, der stimmlich für alles gewappnet ist. Deswegen ist so spannend, wenn 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 sich nun wieder zurückmelden, weil man nicht weiß, was einen so erwarten wird.

Eine Kostprobe des neuen selbstbetitelten Albums gibt es nun mit der Single „Higher“. All die oben genannten Präferenzen finden sich in diesem Song wieder. „Higher“ entfaltet einen energischen harten Drive, spielt zwischendurch mit dunklen Zwischentönen, und erheben sich dann in einem schönen eingängigen Refrain. Technisch ist das wieder einmal Königsklasse und bereitet eine emotionale Achterbahnfahrt. Da kann man mitsingen und genauso hart die Nackenmuskeln fordern.

Interesant dabei ist, dass der Song schon lange in einer Schublade schlummerte, bis man sich nun entschieden hatte diesen zum Leben zu erwecken. So sagt die Band über den Song „Higher“:

Das ist außerdem einer dieser Tracks, deren Grundidee viel älter ist, als man vielleicht vermuten würde. Die Riffs und polyrhythmischen Strukturen in den Strophen und im Outro stammen aus einer Idee, die Tyler bereits 2013 geschrieben hat. Jetzt fühlte es sich endlich nach dem richtigen Zeitpunkt an, sie wieder hervorzuholen und gemeinsam zum Leben zu erwecken, mit vielen zusätzlichen Jahren musikalischer Entwicklung im Rücken.

Das Album wird am 27. November via Distortion Music Group (DMG) (Powered by Reigning Phoenix Music) erscheinen. Damit wird es das erste Album, welches über ein Label veröffentlicht wird. Und ich finde, dass es auch endlich mal Zeit wird, dass die Band mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommt, vor allem auch international. Somit ist es ein bedeutender Schritt für 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍, wenn sie nun mit einem Label im Rücken ihre Musik der Welt präsentieren können.

I have been following the Canadian metal band 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 since 2020. My first encounter with the band was the EP Foundations, which I really enjoyed. They had previously released the album Kingsbane in 2017 but remastered it in 2021, even completely re-recording three of the songs for the new version. Then, in 2022, came the album Momentous, on which they impressively showcased their wide range and top-notch quality.

𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 were nominated for „Metal Band of the Year“ at the 2023 Western Canadian Music Awards; throughout their career, they have shared the stage with world-renowned acts such as NIGHTWISH, INSOMNIUM, EVERGREY, DARK TRANQUILLITY, KAMELOT, DRAGONFORCE, AMORPHIS, KREATOR, DESTRUCTION and HYPOCRISY.

It has always been striking how technically proficient 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 are, and how their songwriting often incorporates complex or progressive elements. 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍 defy easy categorization; their sound ranges from delicate melodies to extremely heavy, aggressive outbursts. None of this poses a problem for their outstanding vocalist, Reed Alton, whose voice is up to any challenge. That is what makes 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍’s return so exciting—you never quite know what to expect.

We now get a taste of their new self-titled album with the single „Higher“. This song embodies all the characteristics mentioned above: „Higher“ drives forward with energetic heaviness, plays with dark undertones, and then soars into a beautifully catchy chorus. Technically, it is top-tier work that takes the listener on an emotional rollercoaster—perfect for singing along while giving your neck muscles a serious workout.

Interestingly, the song had been gathering dust in a drawer for a long time before the decision was finally made to bring it to life. Here is what the band has to say about the song „Higher“:

This is one of those tracks where the foundation is much older than you’d expect. The riffs and polyrhythmic patterns in the verses and outro were pulled from an idea Tyler wrote back in 2013. It finally felt like the right time to revive it, bringing it to life collaboratively with many more years of musical growth behind us.

The album is set for release on November 27 via Distortion Music Group (DMG) (powered by Reigning Phoenix Music). This marks 𝐎𝐒𝐘𝐑𝐎𝐍’s first album to be released through a label. It is high time the band received more attention, especially on an international level.
