𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 stammen aus den Niederlanden und ich freue mich sehr, dass ich mal wieder eine Band hören darf, die mich mit ihrem ungewöhnlichen Stil überrascht und begeistert. Die Band schmettert auf 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 & 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚 mitreißenden Folk Metal, und das auf eine überaus witzige und erfrischende Art und Weise. Dabei gehen sie nicht gerade sanft vor, denn der Härtegrad ist mettalisch stabil und lässt es mächtig krachen. Ihr dürft mehr als gespannt sein, was euch 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 musikalisch zusammegekloppt haben.

Ich will euch nicht lange auf die Folter spannen und deshalb gibt’s hier direkt die aktuelle Video-Single vom Song „Blastafari“ auf die Ohren. Seid gewarnt, denn 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 sind nicht zimperlich und starten den Song mit voll Karacho, fast auf Black Metal Raserei Niveau. Da wird der Pilz in der Pfanne verrückt…oder so ähnlich. Verrückt ist ein gutes Stichwort, weil der Song in seiner ganzen Machart so irre gemacht ist, dass man tatsächlich denken könnte, dass er in einem Rausch geschrieben wurde. Vielleicht haben sich 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 eine Schwitzhütte im Wald gebaut und sich eine Pilzpfeife gegönnt, um den Geist für allerlei kosmische Kreativität zu öffnen.

Wie auch immer… Der Song ist ne kosmische Erfahrung, die sehr bunt und abwechslungsreich gestaltet ist. Hier bekommt man brettharte Metal-Vibes, die mit mitreißenden pagan-folkige Passagen gespickt sind. Darüber hinaus wird es aber noch total durchgeknallt, wenn auf einmal tanzbare Reggea-Vibes erklingen, die auch von einem Soundtrack eines Jump&Run-Spiels stammen könnten. Es ist wirklich ein bekloppter Trip, aber höchst unterhaltsam und mitreißend.

Ungewöhnlich sind die teils üppigen Spielzeiten der Songs. Der Opener „Behind Enemy Lines“ schlägt direkt mit über acht Minuten zu. Wenn man sich die ersten Momente des Openers so anhört und die Band nicht kennt, der wird in diesen Momenten wohl am wenigsten verrückten Folk Metal erwarten. Vielmehr würde man man ein episches Heavy/Power Metal Ereignis auf sich zukommen sehen, in dem von heroischen Schlachten gesungen wird.

Doch weit gefehlt. Das stimmungsvolle Intro dauert über zwei Minuten, doch dann geht es in bester Pagan-Metal-Manier flott voran. Hier gibt es die volle Breitseite der martialischen Metal-Front, die keinen Rückzug duldet. Die Folk-Metal Elemente brechen immer wieder hervor, mal mehr mal weniger. Sehr skurril wird es ab Minute 04:40, wo die Band einen krassen Break hinlegt, um ein bisschen Zirkusstimmung zu verbreiten. Das zaubert einem schon ein Grinsen ins Gesicht, welches aber alsbald schon wieder von den nächsten harten musikalischen Ohrlaschen hinweggefegt wird.

𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 sind quasi Meister über Raum und Zeit, denn sie erschaffen ganz neue Klang-Universen und können lange Zeitspannen wie im Fluge vergehen lassen. Stellt euch darauf ein, dass ihr jederzeit mit Sounds rechnen müsst, die ihr nicht erwarten würdet. Darin liegt natürlich auch eine gewisse Spannung verborgen. „Redneck Redemption“ zündet mal so ganz unverhofft mit einem wilden Banjo durch und sorgt für eine ausgelassene Party im Saloon. Plötzlich höre ich wieder Samples wie aus einem Jump&Run Spiel…Bekloppt, aber witzig! Welche Pilze muss man essen, um auf solche Ideen zu kommen?

Bei „Heathen Hooray“ kommen dann eher Seemannsgefühle durch. Allerdings hätte ich mir hier ein Schifferklavier gewünscht, was meiner Meinung nach super zum musikalischen Thema und zum Verrücktheitsgrad der Band gepasst hätte. Aber das rockige Gitarrensolo ist ebenfalls nicht zu verachten. Tja… und als ob man mich erhört hätte, kommt das Akkordeon später beim Song „Seamen Shanty“ zum Einsatz, der als Song das Seemannsgarn noch klarer spinnt. Da hebt man gerne seinen Humpen und prostet sich gegenseitig zu.

Und also ob es nicht schon genug verrückte Ideen gehagelt hätte, schaffen es 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 tatsächlich noch einen draufzusetzen. Der Song „The Vikening“ verbindet technoartige Synthie-Sounds mit bretthartem Metal. Diese Mixtur ist zwar auch nichts neues mehr in der Metalwelt, aber hätte ich hier so nicht erwartet, da beim Folk Metal die Songs eher mit traditionellen Instrumenten und Klänge unterlegt werden. 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 gönnen sich aber alle Freiheiten und setzen auch diese verrückte Idee gekonnt um. Es macht Laune!

„Rise & Fall“ bildet den Kern des Albums und knackt die Neun-Minuten-Marke. Und auch dieser Song sticht hervor, und das nicht wegen seiner Verrücktheit. Tatsächlich haben 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 diesen Song anders gestaltet, denn von folkigem Spaß ist erstmal gar nix zu hören. Der Song generiert eine dunkle epische Aura, wobei man sich beim Tempo zurückhält. Die Folk-Sounds fügen sich nach und nach ein, bis sie sich dauerhaft im Hintergrund manifestieren, aber ohne in einen Partymodus zu verfallen. In der Tat bewahrt sich der Song aber seinen epischen Charakter und erscheint mehr als macht- und kraftvolle Ballade als ein durchgeknallter Folk-Metal-Party-Kracher. Ein interessanter Einschub im Albumkonzept, mit dem ich nicht gerechnet habe. Es unterstreicht aber nur die Vielseitigkeit und Unberechenbarkeit von 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃.

Leider gibt es noch keine weitere Single-Auskopplung, aber ich habe ein Video gefunden, bei dem eine ganze Show von 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 beim Ragnarök Festival 2025 mitgeschnitten wurde. Dort präsentieren sich 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 eindrucksvoll als eine Band, die live ne richtig geile Show macht und ein Garant für astreine Partystimmung sind. Wer die Möglichkeit hat diese Band live zu erleben, der sollte auf jeden Fall hingehen. Denn der Live-Mitschnitt verspricht eine Menge Spaß!

Fazit

𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 machen keine Musik von der Stange. Sie machen Musik aus einem verrückten Gemüt und freien Geist heraus. 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 wollen entertainen! Ihre Musik soll für eine gute ausgelassene Stimmung sorgen und so für ne geile Partysause sorgen.

Für diese Mission haben sie auf ihrem Album 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 & 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚 einen durchgeknallten Mix aus bretthartem Pagan Metal mit allerlei verrückten Elementen erschaffen. Dabei knallen sie dem Hörer auch mal Klänge abseits der klassischen Folk-Sounds um die Ohren. Völlig irre, aber verdammt mitreißend, wenn man sich darauf einlässt. Ich lege mich fest: 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 & 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚 ist verrückteste Album 2026! 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 sind eine Klasse für sich!

𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 hail from the Netherlands, and I am delighted to hear a band that surprises and thrills me with its unusual style. On 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 & 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚, the band churns out rousing folk metal in a thoroughly witty and refreshing manner. Their sound certainly isn’t cuddly., The level of intensity is extremely high, and it really packs a punch. You have every reason to be excited about the music 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 has hammered together.

I won’t keep you in suspense for long, so here is the latest video single „Blastafari“. Be warned: 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 don’t hold back, kicking off the track at full throttle—bordering on the kind of frenzy you’d expect from black metal. It’s a very wild experience. This song is crafted in such a manic way that you might well think it was written in a mushroom-induced haze. Perhaps 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 built a sweat lodge in the woods and treated themselves to a mushroom pipe to open their minds to all manner of cosmic creativity.

Anyway… „Blastafari“ is a cosmic experience, crafted to be incredibly colorful and diverse. You get hard-hitting metal vibes interspersed with infectious pagan-folk passages. But things get even more crazy when suddenly danceable reggae vibes start playing, which could also have come from the soundtrack of a jump&run game. It’s a totally wacky trip, yet highly entertaining and captivating.

Some of the songs have unusually long runtimes. The opener „Behind Enemy Lines“ clocks in at over eight minutes right off the bat. If you listen to the opening moments without knowing the band, you would hardly expect „crazy“ folk metal; instead, you would anticipate an epic heavy/power metal anthem about heroic battles.

But far from it. The atmospheric intro fades out, and then things pick up pace in true pagan metal fashion. Here, you get the full force of a martial metal assault that brooks no retreat. The folk metal elements remain somewhat in the background but occasionally break through here and there. Things take a truly quirky turn at the 4:40 mark, where the band executes a jarring break to conjure up a bit of circus atmosphere. It’s enough to put a grin on your face—though that smile is quickly swept away by the next barrage of heavy musical blows.

But far from it. The atmospheric intro lasts over two minutes, but then things move quickly in the fenzy pagan metal style. Here there is the full broadside of the martial metal front that tolerates no retreat. The folk metal elements keep coming out, sometimes more, sometimes less. Things get very bizarre from minute 04:40 onwards, where the band takes a blatant break to create a bit of a circus atmosphere. That already puts a grin on your face, but it is soon swept away by the next hard musical ear flaps.

𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 are really masters of space and time, creating entirely new sonic universes and making long stretches of time fly by in an instant. Be prepared for unexpected sounds to pop up at any moment—something that naturally adds a certain thrill to the experience. „Redneck Redemption“ for instance, suddenly kicks into high gear with a funny banjo riff, turning the track into a raucous saloon party. And then, suddenly, I hear samples again that could have come straight out of a platformer… It’s quirky, but fun! What kind of mushrooms do you have to eat to come up with ideas like that?

„Heathen Hooray“ evokes more of a nautical vibe. That said, I would have liked to hear an accordion here—something that, in my opinion, would have fit perfectly with the musical theme and the band’s eccentric style. Still, the rock-style guitar solo works really well. Well… and as if my wish had been granted, the accordion does make an appearance later on the track „Seamen Shanty“, a song that spins a tall sailor’s tale even more vividly. It’s the kind of track that makes you want to raise your tankard and toast one another.

And as if there hadn’t already been a barrage of crazy ideas, 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 actually manage to take things a step further. The song „The Vikening“ combines techno-style synth sounds with hard-hitting metal. While this kind of blend isn’t exactly new to the metal world, it wasn’t something I expected here, given that folk metal songs usually rely on traditional instruments and sounds. However, 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 give themselves free rein and execute this wild idea skillfully. It’s a blast!

„Rise & Fall“ forms the core of the album, clocking in at over nine minutes. This track stands out, too—and not because of any eccentricity. In fact, MOURNING WOOD took a different approach here; there is absolutely no trace of folk-style fun at the outset. The song conjures a dark, epic atmosphere while maintaining a restrained tempo. Folk elements gradually weave their way in, eventually establishing a constant presence in the background without ever tipping into „party mode.“ Ultimately, the track retains its epic character, coming across more as a powerful ballad than a wild folk-metal party anthem. It is an interesting, unexpected addition to the album’s concept—one that simply underscores MOURNING WOOD’s versatility and unpredictability.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been another single release yet, but I did find a video capturing an entire 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 set from the Ragnarök Festival 2025. It shows 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 in impressive form—a band that puts on a killer live show and guarantees a fantastic party atmosphere. If you have the chance to see them live, you definitely should; this live show promises a lot of fun!

Conclusion

𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 don’t make run-of-the-mill music. They create music born of a wild spirit and a free mind. 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 want to entertain! Their music is meant to create a great, high-spirited atmosphere and ensure an awesome party.

For this mission, they’ve crafted a wild, unhinged mix of hard-hitting Pagan Metal and all sorts of crazy elements on their album 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 & 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚. They blast the listener with sounds that go far beyond the usual folk tropes. It’s completely mad, yet incredibly infectious once you get into it. I’m calling it now: 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙚 & 𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚 is the craziest album of 2026! 𝐌𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐖𝐎𝐎𝐃 are in a league of their own!
