Die mächtigen 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 erheben sich wieder aus den finsteren Untiefen des Schwarzwalds, um uns mit ihrer epischen monumentalen Musik zu überwältigen. Die Band ist mittlerweile schon lange im Geschäft. Für mich eine herausragende Band mit einem einzigartigen Sound, den man sofort erkennt. Trotz vieler fantastischer Releases wird das grandiose Album Rastlos aus dem Jahr 2013 einen ewigen Platz in meinem Herzen haben. Für mich ein absolut überwältigendes Album, das mich immer noch jedesmal fasziniert.

Wie sieht es mit 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 im Jahr 2026 aus? Sehr gut würde ich mal behaupten. Denn 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 liefern mir ihrem neuen Album 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 wieder grandios ab. Ups… jetzt habe ich es schon verraten. Na egal…

Nun gut… steigen wir mal ein! „Obduktion“ eröffnet die lange Reise, welche sich über eine Zeit von wahrhaftig epischen 78 Minuten erstrecken wird. Schon nach den ersten Momenten bin ich wieder voll in der Welt von 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 und genieße den gewaltigen Sound, der mich jedesmal aufs neue begeistert. Als ich so lausche, überraschen mich 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 mit etwas moderneren Keys (hier ab Minute 02:20), die noch entfernt an Bläser erinnern. Klingt aber nicht schlecht, hat mich aber etwas irritiert, weil ich bei 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 eher Folk-Elemente und vor allem das Akkordeon erwarte. Doch das kommt dann im Mittelteil und ich bin beruhigt und am Ende treten die schon bekannten mächtigen Bläser in Erscheinung. Wie erwartet erschaffen 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 eine verdammt dichte Atmosphäre, die wirkt.

„Herbstwanderung“ trägt seinen Titel vollkommen zu Recht: Der Song wirkt zwischendurch wie ein langsamer ruhiger Gang durch den stillen Wald. Es sind Passagen, die die Melancholie in sich tragen; nachdenklich, fast schon introspektiv. Und 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 legen den Fokus klar auf den Gesang. Sowohl der Einzelgesang als auch die Chorstimmen entfalten hier eine besondere Präsenz, als würde die Band den Hörer direkt an die Hand nehmen und durch diese Landschaft führen.

Doch diese Wanderung bleibt nicht gleichförmig! Abgesehen von den robusteren Einlagen bauen 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 noch einen dramatischen Höhepunkt ein, der die Stimmung aufpeitscht: harsche Vocals brechen hervor, die Instrumentierung verdichtet sich, und für einen Moment wirkt der Song wie ein Sturm, der über die melancholische Szenerie hinwegfegt. Es ist ein kraftvoller Kontrast, der die emotionale Tiefe des Stücks erst richtig sichtbar macht.

Nachdem sich dieser Sturm gelegt hat, schließen 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 den Kreis. Der Song kehrt zu seiner erhabenen Grundhaltung zurück und schafft einen Ausklang, der wirkt wie ein letzter Blick von einem Berg auf den Wald, bevor dieser in der Dämmerung langsam in Dunkelheit versinkt. „Herbstwanderung“ ist einer dieser Songs, die geradezu einladen mitzusingen, mitzuschwingen, die Band zu begleiten. Ein Stück, das nicht nur gehört, sondern mitgefühlt werden will.

„Knie Nieder“ steigt wieder massiver ein und wirkt eindringlicher, wobei aber verhaltenen nachdenklichen Passagen eingestreut werden. Mit „Im Wind“ folgt dann ein Opus, das gesanglich einen schärferen Ton anschlägt und die Atmosphäre merklich verfinstert. Die Klangwelt wird breiter, schwerer, fast schon überwältigend, und der Gesang zeigt hier ein vielschichtiges Repertoire: von klaren, getragenen Linien über kraftvolle Chöre bis hin zu harschen Ausbrüchen, die sich perfekt in diese komplexe, dichte Klanglandschaft einfügen. Es ist ein Meisterwerk, das durch und durch fesselt…nicht nur wegen seiner musikalischen Größe, sondern weil es die Essenz von 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 in konzentrierter Form einfängt: episch, dunkel, emotional und voller erzählerischer Kraft.

„Stille Nacht“ war die erste Single, die veröffentlicht wurde. Hier finde ich es schade, dass sich die Videoversion von der Albumsversion dahingehend unterscheidet, dass das Akkordeon-Intro aus dem Video nicht auf dem Album zu hören ist. Auf dem Album steigt der Song direkt mit voller Brutalität ein, während im Video vorher ein schönes Akkordeon-Solo als Einleitung zu hören ist, was ich sehr schön finde, ein intimer Moment, bevor der Song mit seiner Härte voll zuschlägt.

Abgesehen davon liefern 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 erneut ein emotional intensives Erlebnis. Die Mischung aus harscher Energie, melodischer Weite und dieser unverkennbaren Schwarzwald‑Atmosphäre beeindruckt und zeigt einmal mehr, wie sicher die Band ihre Kontraste beherrscht. „Stille Nacht“ bleibt ein imposanter Song, egal in welcher Version.

„Fels“ ist die große Ausnahme auf dem Album; ein Moment der Reduktion, der sich bewusst von der cineastischen Größe der übrigen Stücke absetzt. Hier bilden Gesang und akustische Gitarrenklänge das gesamte Fundament. Keine orchestralen Wellen, keine epischen Bläser, keine eruptive Wucht: Stattdessen eine Erdung mitten in der sonst so überwältigenden Klanglandschaft. Es demonstriert auch wundervoll, was für ein toller Sänger Olli ist, der mit viel Ausstrahlung und starker Präsenz punktet. Und ich finde, dass angesichts der ansonsten opulenten Darbietung so ein Song durchaus im Gesamtkonzept Sinn macht.

Mit „Leere“ haben 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 den gewaltigsten Track des Albums geschaffen. Es ist eine 24‑minütige Reise, die alles umfasst, was diese Band ausmacht. Ich freue mich jedes Mal auf solche Monumente, denn epische Großkompositionen sind seit Jahren ein Markenzeichen von 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓. Schon das stimmungsvolle Intro, das sich fast drei Minuten Zeit nimmt, bevor die eigentliche Geschichte beginnt, trägt unverkennbar ihre Handschrift: langsam aufziehende Atmosphäre, schwelende Spannung mit einem Gefühl von Weite und Größe.

Und dann geht es zur Sache: mächtig, düster, kompromisslos. „Leere“ ist sogar noch eine Steigerung von „Im Wind“. „Leere“ ist ein Song mit noch mehr Kapiteln, Wendungen und emotionalen Schichten. Die Band erzählt hier nicht nur lyrisch eine Geschichte, sondern auch instrumental. Es ist ein klangliches Multiversum, in dem sich Härte, Melancholie, cineastische Breite und intime Momente zu einer einzigen, überwältigenden Komposition vereinen. Hier ist alles drin! Einfach nur gigantisch!

Abschluss noch zwei völlig unterschiedliche Cover‑Songs. Man höre und staune: Beide werden in englischer Sprache dargeboten. Zum einen handelt es sich um „Beyond the North Waves“, im Original von der norwegischen Black‑Metal‑Legende IMMORTAL, zum anderen um „Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II“ von PINK FLOYD. Unterschiedlicher könnten die Vorlagen kaum sein, und genau darin liegt der Reiz dieses Bonus‑Doppels.

„Beyond the North Waves“ ist als Vorlage wie geschaffen für 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 und fügt sich erstaunlich organisch in die düstere, epische Atmosphäre des Albums ein. Finsterforst interpretieren den Song mit Respekt vor dem Original, aber mit ihrer eigenen erzählerischen Handschrift mit epischer Größe. Damit haben sie den frostigen nordischen Immortal‑Klassiker mit einer schmackhaften Schwarzwald-Essenz versetzt.

„Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II“ hingegen ist die größere Überraschung. Der ikonische Pink‑Floyd‑Song bekommt im Finsterforst‑Style deutlich mehr Druck verpasst: härtere Gitarren, wuchtigere Rhythmik, eine dunklere, massivere Stimmung. Die Band verwandelt den Klassiker in ein kraftvolles, fast schon monumentales Stück, das dennoch das Original respektiert.

Fazit

Mit 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 liefern 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 ein magisches Werk ab, das ihre gesamte künstlerische Identität in sich vereint und mit voller Imposanz nach außen trägt: episch, düster, emotional und voller erzählerischer Kraft. Die Band verbindet monumentale Klanglandschaften mit intimen Momenten, wechselt mühelos zwischen brutaler Wucht und melancholischer Tiefe. Sie sind Meister in der Präsenation gewaltiger musikalischer Szenarien und wollen vor allem eins: den Hörer fesseln und mitnehmen!

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 sind eine großartige Band, aber mit ihrem Album Still sind sie sogar vielleicht noch ein Stück größer geworden und es gelingt ihnen mühelos auf der gesamten Reise zu faszinieren. Mehr geht nicht!

The mighty 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 rise once more from the dark depths of the Black Forest to overwhelm us with their epic, monumental music. The band has been around for many years now, and to me they remain an outstanding act with a unique sound that you recognize instantly. Despite many fantastic releases, their magnificent 2013 album Rastlos will forever hold a special place in my heart. It’s an absolutely overwhelming experience that still fascinates me every single time.

So what about 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 in 2026? Great, I would say. Because with their new album Still, Finsterforst deliver grandly once again. Oops… I’ve already spoiled it. Oh well…

Alright then…let’s dive in! “Obduktion” opens the long journey, one that stretches across a truly epic 78 minutes. After just a few moments I’m fully back in the world of 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓, enjoying that massive sound that captivates me anew every time. As I listen, the band surprises me with some more modern keys (around the 02:20 mark), faintly reminiscent of brass. It doesn’t sound bad at all, but it did catch me off guard, since I usually expect folk elements from 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓, especially the accordion. But that appears in the middle section, and I’m reassured. And toward the end, the familiar mighty brass arrangements emerge once more. As expected, 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 create an incredibly dense atmosphere that truly works.

“Herbstwanderung” truly earns its title: at times, the song feels like a slow, quiet walk through a silent forest. These passages carry a deep melancholy: contemplative, almost introspective. And 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 place a clear focus on the vocals. Both the solo voice and the choral arrangements unfold a special presence here, as if the band were taking the listener by the hand and guiding them through this landscape.

But this wander does not remain uniform. Beyond the sturdier sections, 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓build in a dramatic climax that stirs the atmosphere: harsh vocals break through, the instrumentation thickens, and for a moment the song feels like a storm sweeping across the melancholic scenery. It’s a powerful contrast that reveals the emotional depth of the piece.

Once the storm has passed, 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 close the circle. The song returns to its elevated, solemn character, creating an ending that feels like a final view from a mountain over the forest before it slowly sinks into darkness at dusk. “Herbstwanderung” is one of those songs that invite you to sing along, to sway with it, to accompany the band. A piece that is not just heard, but felt.

“Knie Nieder” enters with more force again and feels more urgent, though restrained, reflective passages are woven throughout. With “Im Wind” follows an opus that strikes a sharper vocal tone and noticeably darkens the atmosphere. The sonic world becomes broader, heavier, almost overwhelming, and the vocals display a multi‑layered repertoire: from clear, sustained lines to powerful choirs and harsh outbursts that fit perfectly into this complex, dense soundscape. It’s a masterpiece that captivates completely, not only because of its musical magnitude, but because it captures the essence of 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 in concentrated form: epic, dark, emotional, and full of narrative power.

“Stille Nacht” was the first single released. Here I find it a bit unfortunate that the video version differs from the album version in one important detail: the accordion intro heard in the video is not present on the album. On the album, the song begins immediately with full brutality, whereas the video offers a beautiful accordion solo as an intimate prelude before the song strikes with its full force. That’s something I find very charming.

Aside from that, 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 once again deliver an emotionally intense experience. The blend of harsh energy, melodic breadth, and that unmistakable Black Forest atmosphere impresses and shows once more how confidently the band handles contrasts. “Stille Nacht” remains an imposing song, no matter which version you hear.

“Fels” is the great exception on the album; a moment of reduction that deliberately distances itself from the cinematic grandeur of the other tracks. Here, vocals and acoustic guitar form the entire foundation. No orchestral waves, no epic brass, no eruptive force…instead, a grounding in the midst of an otherwise overwhelming sonic landscape. It also wonderfully demonstrates what a fantastic singer Olli is, shining with charisma and strong presence. And I think that, considering the otherwise opulent presentation, such a song makes perfect sense within the overall concept.

With “Leere“, 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 have created the most massive track on the album. It is a 24‑minute journey that encompasses everything this band stands for. I look forward to such monuments every time, because epic large‑scale compositions have been a hallmark of Finsterforst for years. Even the atmospheric intro, which takes nearly three minutes before the actual story begins, bears their unmistakable signature: slowly rising atmosphere, smoldering tension, and a sense of vastness and grandeur.

And then things get serious: powerful, dark, uncompromising. “Leere” is even a step beyond “Im Wind“. It is a song with more chapters, more twists, more emotional layers. The band tells a story not only lyrically, but instrumentally as well. It is a sonic multiverse in which heaviness, melancholy, cinematic breadth, and intimate moments merge into a single overwhelming composition. Everything is in here. Simply gigantic!

The album closes with two completely different cover songs. And lo and behold: both are performed in English. One is “Beyond the North Waves“, originally by Norwegian Black‑Metal legends Immortal, and the other is “Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II” by Pink Floyd. The originals could hardly be more different, and that contrast is precisely what makes this bonus pair so appealing.

“Beyond the North Waves” is practically made for 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 and fits astonishingly well into the dark, epic atmosphere of the album. Finsterforst interpret the song with respect for the original, but with their own narrative, epic signature. They infuse the frosty northern Immortal classic with a flavorful Black Forest essence.

“Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II“, on the other hand, is the bigger surprise. The iconic Pink Floyd track receives noticeably more punch in the 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 style: heavier guitars, more forceful rhythms, a darker, more massive mood. The band transforms the classic into a powerful, almost monumental piece that still respects the original.

Conclusion

With 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡, 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓deliver a magical work that unites their entire artistic identity and carries it outward with full grandeur: epic, dark, emotional, and full of narrative power. The band combines monumental soundscapes with intimate moments, shifting effortlessly between brutal force and melancholic depth. They are masters in presenting vast musical scenarios and pursue one goal above all: to captivate the listener and take them along for the journey.

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐒𝐓 is a mighty band, but with their album 𝙎𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡, they may have grown even a little further. They manage to fascinate with ease throughout the entire journey: in the epic outbursts as well as in the quiet, grounding moments. It doesn’t get any better than this.
