𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 haben heute ihr erstes live aufgenommene Album 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 veröffentlicht. Die Band existiert schon seit 2001 und hat seitdem sechs Alben produziert. Das Live Album wurde in ihrem Heimatland gemeinsam mit dem Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra aufgenommen, und zwar im Nationalauditorium ihres Heimatlandes Andorra. Eine ganz besondere Ehre, die die Band folgendermaßen empfindet:

Es kommt nicht jeden Tag vor, dass man die Geschichte seiner Band unter solch einzigartigen Umständen feiern kann. Nach so vielen Jahren wieder zu Hause zu spielen, vor unserem Publikum, in der Nationalhalle, mit dem Nationalorchester, war etwas, das wir uns nie hätten träumen lassen. Aber als sich die Gelegenheit bot, konnten wir einfach nicht nein sagen, und wir wussten, dass wir dieses Erlebnis für alle verewigen wollten, damit jeder daran teilhaben kann. Diese Show ist eine Art Vollendung des Kreises, von einem miesen Proberaum und unseren ersten Auftritten in Clubs bis hin zu einem Auftritt an einem so symbolträchtigen Ort unseres Landes. Seid dabei bei dieser besonderen Show. Willkommen bei PERSEFONE. Willkommen in Andorra.

Die Zusammenarbeit mit einem realen Orchester ist immer etwas besonderes und kann die Musik auf ein ganz anderes Level heben. Gerade auch live bei so einer Kollaboration anwesend zu sein, beschert einem sowohl optisch als auch akustisch eine ganz spezielle Erfahrung. Auf 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 sind viele Songs außerdem erstmals mit Daniel R. Flys als Sänger zu hören – der Frontmann stieß 2023 zur Band.

Mit 14 Songs von ihren vier letzten Longplayer sowie der aktuellen EP stellen 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 ihre Vielseitigkeit unter Beweis. 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 ist eine Reise, die die Songs nach Veröffentlichungen gruppiert: Nach dem Start mit dem neuestes Release Lingua Ignota: Part I (2024) führt die Band ihr Publikum durch Aathma (2017) und bis zurück zum 2009 erschienen Shin-ken. Auf einen Ausflug hin zu metanoia (2022) folgt abschließend das Erfolgsalbum Spiritual Migration (2013).

Das Cover Artwork wirkt sehr ungewöhnlich für ein Extreme-Metal-Album. Die Silhouette eines Schmetterlings auf einem Hügel ist an Schlichtheit kaum zu übertreffen. Eventuell ist der Schmetterling als Symbol für Transformation bzw. Veränderung und Weiterentwicklung gewählt worden, um den Werdegang der Band über die Zeit hinweg in seiner künstlerischen Vision darzustellen. Nun zurück zur Musik….

Wer nun befürchtet, dass die Songs durch die Einbindung des Orchesters an Intensität und Härte verlieren, den kann ich getrost beruhigen, denn dies ist absolut nicht der Fall. Ganz im Gegenteil! Die Songs werden auf ein neues Level gehoben und werden zu monumentalen Erlebnissen. Die Single „One Word“ belegt diese Empfindung mehr als eindrucksvoll. Das vorgesetzte Intro führt sehr zart, geradezu vorsichtig, in das Geschehen ein. Umso beeindruckender schlagen dann die Growls ein, die umgehend die Stimmung ändern.

Dann kracht „One Word“ herein und lässt keine Zweifel daran, dass man es mit knallhartem Metal zu tun hat. Das Orchester verleiht dem ganzen eine wundervolle Epik und Tiefe. Ich nehme wohlwollend zur Kenntnis, dass das Orchester nicht immer so krass hervorsticht, damit die Gitarrenwände und das durchschlagende Drumming in ihrer gnadenlosen Härte mehr im Fokus stehen können. Gesanglich ist das ebenfalls herausragend und alles zusammen lässt „One Word“ zu einem phänomenalen Beginn der Reise werden.

Die Band sagt über den Song „One Word“:

In jeder Show gibt es unterschiedliche Momente, aber nichts ist vergleichbar mit dem Nervenkitzel des Intros, das zum eigentlichen Beginn führt. Man spürt die Energie auf der Bühne, man sieht die Menschen, die darauf brennen, ihre Begeisterung loszulassen, nachdem sie auf die erste klangliche Explosion gewartet haben. Für diese spezielle Show musste der Song, der ausgewählt wurde, um das gesamte Erlebnis zu entfachen, „One Word” sein. Es ist einer der letzten Songs, die wir geschrieben haben, aber einer unserer Lieblingssongs für Live-Auftritte. Er ist direkt, kraftvoll und verbindet Band und Publikum im Handumdrehen. Hoffentlich können Sie diese Verbindung auch spüren, wenn Sie diese Single genießen.

Es ist eine packende Atmosphäre, die hier entfaltet wird. „The Equable“ hält locker das Niveau. Hier wird deutlich, dass auch gesanglich ganz großes emotionales Kino geboten wird. Die Growls klingen eindrucksvoll aggressiv, während die cleanen Vocals mit so einer kraftvollen emotionalen Intensität dargeboten werden, dass ich Gänsehaut bekomme.

„Stillness Is Timeless“ ist mit über 10 Minuten Spielzeit der längste Track auf dem Album. Bei diesem Song zeigen 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄, wie packend und spannend progressiver Metal sein kann. Dieser Monstersong ist der Wahnsinn! Ein Füllhorn an Eindrücken! Und dabei in jeder Beziehung kohärent! Es passt alles zusammen, alles ergibt einen Sinn. Keine übertriebenen Brüche, sondern ein Fluß von Elementen. Ich finde es auch schön, dass das Publikum zwischendurch zu hören ist. Das trägt zur Live-Atmosphäre bei.

Mit „Cosmic Walkers“ erklingt ein reines Instrumentalstück, das wie eine Art Ruhepol dient und dem Hörer Luft zum Durchatmen gibt, sich zu besinnen, um sich auf das noch Kommende vorzubereiten. Die Stelle ist sehr gut gewählt.

Danach schließt sich „Living Waves“ an, dass wieder mit neuen Eindrücken zu begeistern weiß. Hier wird mal technisch am Gesang herumgespielt, was mich erst einmal irritiert hat, aber irgendwie fand ich es dann doch cool. Der Song hat jedenfalls von seiner Art her einen Sonderstatus und lotet die Grenzen aus. Die Band sagt über den Song:

„Living Waves” ist zweifellos einer der wichtigsten Songs in unserem Repertoire. Das spüren wir zumindest jedes Mal, wenn wir ihn live spielen, in der Reaktion des Publikums. Vielleicht liegt es daran, dass wir die Gelegenheit hatten, mit Paul Masvidal zusammenzuarbeiten, einer unserer größten musikalischen Inspirationsquellen. Vielleicht liegt es an der tiefgründigen Bedeutung des Textes oder einfach daran, dass der Song eine ganz eigene Energie hat. Diese Performance bringt den Song wirklich zum Strahlen, und es war für uns keine Frage, ihn als eine der Singles für die Veröffentlichung mit allen zu teilen.

Es wurde ja schon erwähnt, dass die Songs aus verschiedenen Epochen der Schaffensphase stammen und teilweise weit zurückreichen. Jetzt könnte man meinen, dass man dieses anhand der Qualität erkennen könnte. Dies ist nicht der Fall! Die Auswahl der Songs ist erstklassig und man merkt den älteren Songs ihr „Alter“ nicht an.

Nach dem knackigen mit dem interessanten Titel „Kusanagi“ (Kusanagi ist ein legendäres japanisches Schwert und eines der drei heiligen Throninsignien Japans. Im Volksglauben soll es für die Tugend des Mutes stehen.) folgt mit „Leap Of The Death“ wieder ein Instrumentalstück, das Ruhe einkehren lässt. Die Klimax des Tracks ist bemerkenswert und hier ist das Orchester später ab der dritten Minute ein prägender Faktor, der das Ganze zu einem cineastischen Erlebnis werden lässt.

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 schaffen es wahrhaftig bis zum Ende das extrem hohe Niveau zu halten und sind genauos faszinierend wie der Rest des Albums. Mit dem instrumentalen Outro, das vom Orchester geprägt wird, findet man einen schönen versöhnlichen Abschluss.

Fazit

Mit 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 gelingt 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 ein Triumph, der weit über das übliche Format eines Live-Albums hinausgeht. Die Band beweist, dass orchestrale Einbindung nicht zur Verwässerung führt, sondern die Härte und Intensität ihrer Songs auf ein neues Level hebt. Schon der Opener „One Word“ entfaltet eine monumentale Wucht, die durch das zarte Intro und den brachialen Einsatz der Growls eine packende Dramaturgie erhält.

Stücke wie „The Equable“ oder das epische „Stillness Is Timeless“ zeigen eindrucksvoll, wie kohärent und spannend progressiver Metal sein kann – ein Füllhorn an Eindrücken, das dennoch in sich stimmig bleibt. Ruhepole wie „Cosmic Walkers“ oder „Leap Of The Death“ sind klug gesetzt und verleihen dem Album cineastische Tiefe, während „Living Waves“ mit seinen experimentellen Gesangstechniken einen Sonderstatus einnimmt. Selbst ältere Songs wie „Kusanagi“ fügen sich nahtlos ein und wirken durch die orchestrale Neuinterpretation zeitlos.

Bis zum orchestralen Outro hält die Band das extrem hohe Niveau und schafft einen versöhnlichen Abschluss, der die Reise rund macht. 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 ist damit nicht nur ein Dokument der Live-Kraft von 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄, sondern ein Gesamtkunstwerk, das Härte, Epik und Emotionalität in perfekter Balance vereint.

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 released their first live album, 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖. The band has been around since 2001 and has produced six albums since then. The live album was recorded in their home country together with the Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra at the National Auditorium in their home country of Andorra.

It is not everyday that you can celebrate the history of your band with such a unique set of circumstances. Playing at home after so many years, in front of our people, at the National Hall, with the National Orchestra, was something we never imagined would even be a possibility. But when the opportunity appeared, we just couldn’t say no, and we knew we wanted to have this whole experience immortalized for everyone to take part in it. This show is a way of coming full circle, from a crappy rehearsal room and our first shows in clubs, to being able to perform at such an iconic place in our country. Working with a real orchestra is always something special and can take the music to a whole new level. Being present at such a collaboration, especially live, is a very special experience, both visually and acoustically. On 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖, many songs can also be heard for the first time with Daniel R. Flys as singer—he joined the band in 2023.

With 14 songs from their four latest albums and their current EP, 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 demonstrate their versatility. 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 is a journey that groups the songs by release date: Starting with their latest release, Lingua Ignota: Part I (2024), the band takes their audience through Aathma (2017) and back to Shin-ken, released in 2009. A detour to Metanoia (2022) is followed by the successful album Spiritual Migration (2013).

The cover artwork seems very unusual for an extreme metal album. The silhouette of a butterfly on a hill could hardly be simpler. Perhaps the butterfly was chosen as a symbol of transformation or change and development to represent the band’s artistic vision over time. Now back to the music…

Anyone who fears that the songs will lose their intensity and hardness due to the inclusion of the orchestra can rest assured, because this is absolutely not the case. Quite the contrary! The songs are elevated to a new level and become monumental experiences. The single “One Word” proves this feeling more than impressively. The intro leads very delicately, almost cautiously, into the action. This makes the growls all the more impressive, immediately changing the mood.

Then “One Word” crashes in, leaving no doubt that this is hard-hitting metal. The orchestra lends the whole thing a wonderful epic quality and depth. I appreciate that the orchestra doesn’t always stand out so starkly, allowing the walls of guitar and the thunderous drumming to take center stage with their relentless heaviness. The vocals are also outstanding, and all together, “One Word” makes for a phenomenal start to the journey.

The band says about the song „One Word“:

In every show, there are different moments, but nothing compares to the thrill of the intro that leads to the very beginning. You can feel the energy on stage; you can see the people eager to release their enthusiasm after waiting for the first sonic explosion. For this particular show, the song that was chosen to ignite the whole experience had to be ‘One Word’. It’s one of the last songs we wrote, yet one of our favorites to play live. It’s direct, it’s powerful, and it connects with both the band and the audience in a heartbeat. Hopefully, you can also feel that connection by enjoying this single.

The atmosphere that unfolds here is gripping. “The Equable” easily maintains the high standard. It becomes clear here that the vocals also offer great emotional drama. The growls sound impressively aggressive, while the clean vocals are delivered with such powerful emotional intensity that it gives me goosebumps.

With a playing time of over 10 minutes, “Stillness Is Timeless” is the longest track on the album. In this song, 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 show how gripping and exciting progressive metal can be. This monster song is insane! A cornucopia of impressions! And coherent in every respect! Everything fits together, everything makes sense. No exaggerated breaks, just a flow of elements. I also like that you can hear the audience in between. It adds to the live atmosphere.

„Cosmic Walkers“ is a purely instrumental piece that serves as a kind of calming influence, giving the listener room to breathe, reflect, and prepare for what is yet to come. The placement is very well chosen.

This is followed by “Living Waves,” which once again inspires with new impressions. Here, they play around with the vocals technically, which irritated me at first, but somehow I ended up thinking it was cool. In any case, the song has a special status in terms of its style and explores boundaries. The band says about the song:

“Living Waves” is undoubtedly one of the most important songs in our repertoire. At least, that’s what we feel every time we play it live, judging by the audience’s reaction. Maybe it’s because we had the opportunity to work with Paul Masvidal, one of our greatest musical inspirations. Maybe it’s because of the profound meaning of the lyrics, or simply because the song has a unique energy all its own. This performance really makes the song shine, and there was no question in our minds that we wanted to share it with everyone as one of the singles for the release.

It has already been mentioned that the songs come from different periods of the band’s creative phase and some of them date back a long way. Now you might think that there could be differences in quality due to the different times at which they were written. This is not the case! The selection of songs is first-class and you don’t notice the “age” of the older songs.

After the crisp track with the interesting title “Kusanagi” (Kusanagi is a legendary Japanese sword and one of the three sacred insignia of the Japanese throne. In Japanese folklore, it is said to represent the virtue of courage), “Leap Of The Death” follows, another instrumental piece that brings calm. The climax of the track is remarkable, and here the orchestra becomes a defining factor from the third minute onwards, turning the whole thing into a cinematic experience.

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 truly manage to maintain their extremely high standard right to the end and are just as fascinating as the rest of the album. The instrumental outro, dominated by the orchestra, provides a beautiful, conciliatory conclusion.

Conclusion

With 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖, 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄 achieves a triumph that goes far beyond the usual format of a live album. The band proves that orchestral integration does not lead to dilution, but rather elevates the hardness and intensity of their songs to a new level. Already the opener “One Word” unfolds a monumental force, which is given a gripping dramaturgy by the delicate intro and the brute use of growls.

Tracks such as “The Equable” and the epic “Stillness Is Timeless” impressively demonstrate how coherent and exciting progressive metal can be – a cornucopia of impressions that nevertheless remains harmonious. Calm moments such as “Cosmic Walkers” or “Leap Of The Death” are cleverly placed and lend the album cinematic depth, while “Living Waves” takes on a special status with its experimental vocal techniques. Even older songs like “Kusanagi” fit in seamlessly and seem timeless thanks to the orchestral reinterpretation.

The band maintains its extremely high standard right through to the orchestral outro, creating a conciliatory conclusion that rounds off the journey perfectly. 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙄𝙣 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙖 is therefore not just a document of the live power of 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐍𝐄, but also a total work of art that perfectly balances hardness, epicness, and emotionality.
