Na, das ist doch mal ne Neuigkeit! Nach sage und schreibe 10 Jahren lassen es 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 endlich mal wieder krachen. Die neue Single „It’s For The Kids“ kündigt das neue Album 𝘾𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙢 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙤 an, das am 18. September via Nuclear Blast erscheinen wird. 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 sind eine Legende und gehören zu den BIG FOUR des Thrash Metal, welche in den 80’er Jahren zu den vier prägendsten, einflussreichsten und stilbildendsten Thrash‑Metal‑Bands gehörten, und zwar neben METALLICA, MEGADETH und SLAYER.

Mit diesen Bands bin ich aufgewachsen und natürlich verbindet man mit ihnen eine ganz besondere Zeit und Erlebnisse. So war es auch ein Höhepunkt, als ich am 30. September 2025 im Rockland Music Store Witten 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗-Bassist Frank Bello live und in Farbe persönlich kennenlernen durfte, als er dort im Rahmen seiner Bass-Clinic-Tour seine Künste am Bass präsentiert hat. Darüber hinaus hat er noch lustige und interessante Geschichten erzählt. Einem Star der Szene so nah sein zu können, war ein überragendes und unvergessliches Erlebnis.

Umso größer ist die Freude und Aufregung 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 wieder mit einem neuen Song zu hören. Im Laufe des Jahres 2022 stürzte sich die Band mit vollem Eifer in die Aufnahmen zu Cursum Perficio und arbeitete dabei in Dave Grohls Studio 606 in Los Angeles. . Das Ergebnis, produziert von Jay Ruston und Anthrax, ist ein Album, das ebenso wütend, aggressiv und lebendig ist wie ihre gefeiertsten Werke.

Scott Ian erinnert sich:

Es war eine ziemliche Reise – von der Entstehung dieses Albums bis zu seiner Fertigstellung. Eigentlich wollten wir es schon 2020 aufnehmen, doch das Universum hatte für uns alle andere Pläne. Nach der Pandemie konnten wir endlich wieder als Band zusammenfinden. Als wir begannen, an der Platte zu arbeiten, waren wir einfach nur glücklich, wieder gemeinsam in einem Raum zu sein. Es war so aufregend, dass es sich gewissermaßen wie eine Wiedergeburt anfühlte. All diese Energie und all diese Emotionen sind in die Musik eingeflossen. Die Angst, aus unserem gewohnten Leben herausgerissen zu werden, und die Freude über unser Wiedersehen sind darin gleichermaßen spürbar. Der Titel ‚Cursum Perficio‘ fühlt sich typisch nach ANTHRAX an. Er spiegelt genau das wider, was wir durchgemacht haben, um schließlich den Punkt zu erreichen, an dem wir die Platte fertigstellen konnten.

Frank Bello hat folgendes zu sagen:

Wir haben alles gegeben. Wir wissen wirklich, wer wir als ANTHRAX sind, was uns antreibt und was wir tun müssen. Ich glaube nicht, dass irgendjemand weiß, was als Nächstes kommt – aber wir sind hungriger denn je. Von jetzt an werden wir jede verdammte Minute Vollgas geben.

„It’s For The Kids!“ ist ein harter, treibender Song mit einem großen, eingängigen Refrain, eine Mischung aus klassischem ANTHRAX und dem Sound von heute. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, ihn live zu spielen! Auch die Dreharbeiten zum Video haben riesigen Spaß gemacht, wenn auch bei eisiger Kälte! Es ist ein großartiges, energiegeladenes Video, in dem eine ganze Menge fantastischer ANTHRAX-Fans an einem eiskalten Tag in Pennsylvania eine tolle Zeit haben. Der Metal hat uns alle warmgehalten.

It’s For The Kids

Und hier ist das geile Teil. Umgehend brechen bei „It’s For The Kids“ die 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 typischen Vibes durch. Die Vocals von Joey Belladonna sind ohnehin unverkennbar. Mit seinem treibenden druckvollen Beat knallt der Song voll durch und der Breakdown-Part kommt ebenfalls stark rüber, bevor das Gitarrensolo abgefeuert wird. „It’s For The Kids“ hat alles, was man sich wünscht: Knackiger Bass, fette Riffs, rasendes Gitarrensolo, treibende Drums und dazu noch ne coole Verrücktheit, die im Video wunderbar zur Schau gestellt wird. Und schon hat man einen richtig geilen Song, der die Fans mächtig heiß auf das Album macht.

UPDATE 11.07.2026 „THE EDGE OF PERFECTION“

Gestern, am 10. Juli ballern 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 nach einigen Wochen ihre nächste Single „The Edge Of Perfection“ raus. Also gestern direkt reingehört und was ist passiert. Totale Überraschung angesichts der Machart des Songs. Aus den vergangenen Jahrzehnten weiß man ja, dass 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 sich nicht gerne auf einen Stil festlegen ließen. Und trotzdem war ich darauf nicht vorbereitet, zumal die erste Single so hart durchzündete.

Die lange Spielzeit von sieben Minuten von „The Edge Of Perfection“ fiel mir erst gar nicht auf. Ich wunderte mich ein wenig über das lange ruhig gehaltene Intro mit melancholischer Ausrichtung und war dann platt, als Blastbeats die Ruhe einfach brutal hinwegfegen. Melodische Leads begleiten das höllische Geschehen. Chöre erklingen im Hintergrund und dann erfolgt der Bruch in den eigentlichen Song, der eine ganz eigene Rhythmik in den Strophen verfolgt. Der Song ist von dynamischen Wechseln geprägt und ich muss eingestehen, dass das mit Thrash Metal meiner Meinung nach nicht viel zu tun hat. Das ist eher progressiver Metal mit vielschichtigen musikalischen Szenen. Alles handwerklich hochklassig umgesetzt. Das versteht sich von selbst. „The Edge Of Perfection“ ist ein epischer Metal Track und unterscheidet sich deutlich von der ersten Single „It’s For The Kids“.

Es ist eine Song, den ich nicht erwartet habe und deshalb musste ich ihn mir direkt mehrmals anhören. Aber ich muss zugeben, dass ich nach der anfänglichen Überraschung von dem Song angetan bin. Angesichts dieser Erfahrung bin ich nun noch gespannter, was das gesamte Album angeht. Und ich denke, da wird es euch nicht anders gehen. Das Thema des Songs „The Edge Of Perfection“ hätte vermutlich auch niemand erwartet, denn es geht um die Liebe.

Hierzu der Kommentar von Ian:

Das ist der Predator unter den Anthrax-Songs. Ich glaube, es ist der beste Song, den wir je geschrieben haben, und das Beste, woran ich kreativ je beteiligt war. Was ist das stärkste Gefühl, das mich mehr als alles andere bewegt?

Natürlich ist es die Liebe. Nichts berührt mich so sehr wie das tiefe Gefühl, das mir meine Frau und mein Sohn geben. Ich werde den Rest meines Lebens an dieser Schwelle verbringen. Das hier gehört mir, aber es gibt viele Möglichkeiten, es zu ruinieren. In früheren Phasen meines Lebens habe ich es ruiniert, aber genau das hat mich dorthin gebracht, wo ich heute bin.

Liebe ist Perfektion, und ich genieße es, mich an ihrer Grenze zu bewegen. Ich will nicht, dass sich alles immer nur um denselben Mist dreht. Auf dieser Platte stecken jede Menge Liebe, jede Menge Spaß und ein bisschen Hass.

Well, now that’s some news! After a full ten years, 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 are finally making noise again. The new single “It’s For The Kids” announces the upcoming album 𝘾𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙢 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙤, which will be released on September 18 via Nuclear Blast. 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 are a true legend and belong to the BIG FOUR of thrash metal, the four most influential, defining and style‑shaping bands of the genre in the 1980s, alongside METALLICA, MEGADETH and SLAYER.

I grew up with these bands, and of course they’re tied to a very special time in my life and to countless memories. One of the absolute highlights came on September 30, 2025, when I had the chance to meet 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 bassist Frank Bello in person — live and up close — at the Rockland Music Store in Witten. He stopped there as part of his bass‑clinic tour, showcasing his skills and sharing funny and fascinating stories along the way. Being so close to a true icon of the scene was an outstanding and unforgettable experience.

All the more exciting and joyful it is to hear 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 return with a brand‑new song. Over the course of 2022, the band threw themselves into the recording sessions for Cursum Perficio, working at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles. The result — produced by Jay Ruston and Anthrax — is an album as furious, aggressive and vibrant as some of their most celebrated albums.

Scott Ian remember:

It was quite a journey from the inception of this album to its completion. We were supposed to make this in 2020, but the universe had other plans for everyone. After the Pandemic, we got to be a band again. When we started working on the record, we were just happy to be in a room together. It was so exciting that it was like being reborn in a way. All of that energy and emotion went into the music. The fear of being forced out of our lives and the joy of coming back together are present. The title ‘Cursum Perficio’ feels like ANTHRAX. It resembled what we went through to get to the point of finishing the record.

Frank Bello explains:

We left it all on the table.We really know who we are as ANTHRAX, what turns us on, and what we need to do. I don’t think anybody knows what’s next, but we’re hungrier than ever. From here on out, we’re going to go full throttle for every fucking minute.

„It’s For The Kids!“ is a heavy, driving song with a big hook chorus-a combination of classic ANTHRAX and current- I can’t wait to play it live! Had a (cold!) blast filming the video too. It’s a great, energy packed video with a bunch of amazing ANTHRAX fans having a good time on a freezing day in Pennsylvania. The metal kept us all warm.

It’s For The Kids

And here it is: the glorious beast itself. Right from the start, “It’s For The Kids” bursts with those unmistakable 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 vibes. Joey Belladonna’s vocals are instantly recognizable anyway. Driven by a pounding, forceful beat, the track hits with full impact, and the breakdown section lands hard before the guitar solo fires off. “It’s For The Kids” delivers everything you could hope for: punchy bass, massive riffs, a blazing guitar solo, relentless drums, and that touch of wild, off‑the‑wall energy that the video showcases perfectly. The result is a downright killer track that gets fans seriously fired up for the album.

UPDATE 11.07.2026 „THE EDGE OF PERFECTION“

Yesterday, on July 10, 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 dropped their next single “The Edge Of Perfection” after several weeks of silence. So I listened to it right away — and what happened? Total surprise, given how the song is constructed. From past decades we know that 𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐀𝐗 never liked to tie themselves to one particular style. And yet I wasn’t prepared for this, especially since the first single hit so hard.

The long running time of seven minutes on “The Edge Of Perfection” didn’t strike me at first. I was a bit puzzled by the extended, quietly held intro with its melancholic direction, and then I was blown away when blast beats brutally swept away that calm. Melodic leads accompany the hellish onslaught. Choirs rise in the background, and then comes the break into the actual song, which follows its own distinct rhythmic pattern in the verses. The track is shaped by dynamic shifts, and I have to admit that, in my opinion, this doesn’t have much to do with thrash metal. It’s more progressive metal with multi‑layered musical scenes. All executed with top‑tier craftsmanship — that goes without saying. “The Edge Of Perfection” is an epic metal track and differs significantly from the first single “It’s For The Kids“.

It’s a song I did not expect, and that’s why I had to listen to it several times right away. But I must admit that after the initial surprise, I’ve grown quite fond of it. Given this experience, I’m now even more curious about the full album. And I think you’ll feel the same. The theme of “The Edge Of Perfection” is something no one likely expected either — because it’s about love.

Here’s Ian’s comment on it:

It’s the apex predator of Anthrax songs. I think it’s the best song we’ve ever written and the best thing I’ve ever been a part of creatively. What’s the most powerful emotion that moves me more than anything? Of course, it’s love. Nothing moves me like the deep feeling that I get from my wife and son. I’m living on that edge for the rest of my life. This is mine, but there are a lot of ways to ruin it. I’ve ruined it in past iterations of my life, but it got me to where I am. Love is perfection, and I like being on the edge of it. I don’t want everything to be about all of the same shit. This record has a whole bunch of love, a whole bunch of fun, and a little hate
