SACRIVERSUM-neues Album im Mai: 𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙊𝙛 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩

𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 wurden 1992 im polnischen Łódź gegründet und legten mit ihrem Debüt The Shadow of the Golden Fire (1994) einen bemerkenswert eigenständigen Start hin. Der rohe Death‑Metal‑Kern wurde damals bereits mit atmosphärischen Keyboardflächen und progressiven Strukturen verwoben. Für die frühen 90er war das ein mutiger Ansatz, der die Band klar aus dem polnischen Underground heraushob.

In den folgenden Jahren veröffentlichte das Quartett mehrere Alben auf unterschiedlichen Labels und entwickelte sich stilistisch in eine andere Richtung: Die harsche Death‑Basis rückte zunehmend in den Hintergrund, während 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 eine mehr gothisch geprägte Ausrichtung einschlugen – inklusive weiblicher Vocals, symphonischer Elemente und einer stärker dramaturgisch gedachten Songarchitektur.

2005 folgte die Auflösung, doch 2022 fanden die Musiker überraschend wieder zusammen. Mit nahezu klassischer Besetzung und frischer Energie meldete sich die Band zurück, um ihre Mischung aus düsterem Metal, atmosphärischen Arrangements und progressiven Ideen erneut aufleben zu lassen.

Ihr neues Album, 𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙊𝙛 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, erscheint am 8. Mai auf Fireflash Records und 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 wollen mit dem Album stilistisch am Debüt anknüpfen. Vorab dürfen wir bisher zwei Songs genießen und uns einen ersten Eindruck machen.

Befassen wir uns zuerst mit der zweiten Single „March Of The Giants“:

Der Titel ‚March of the Giants‘ ruft beim Hörer sofort ein bestimmtes Bild hervor, das durch den rhythmischen Charakter des Songs noch verstärkt wird. Viele Leute, mit denen wir gesprochen haben, meinten, diese Struktur erinnere an die epischen Songs von BATHORY. Man kann das sofort mit einer schwer bewaffneten Armee assoziieren, die neue Gebiete erobert und alles zerstört, was ihr im Weg steht. Für uns geht es aber eher um den Aspekt der Unaufhaltsamkeit. Es ist ein Song darüber, dass, sobald man sein Team zusammengestellt hat und sich gemeinsam aufmacht, sein Ziel zu erreichen, nichts einen davon abhalten kann, es zu erreichen

Während 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 mit „March Of The Giants“ eine kompromisslose Schlacht entfesseln, die vor Energie nur so strotzt und dennoch Raum für melodische Atempausen samt epischem Gitarrensolo lässt, zeigt die erste Single „Let Us Ride The World“ eine ganz andere Facette. Hier öffnet die Band ihr Klangspektrum hin zu deutlichprogressiveren Strukturen, die mit für klassischen Death Metal eher ungewöhnlichen Elementen spielen und 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌s Mut zur stilistischen Weiterentwicklung unterstreichen.

„Let Us Ride The World“ verkörpert zunächst den typischen Death-Metal-Vibe, aber schon mit mehr atmosphärischer Tiefe. 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 gehen stellenweise vehement zur Sache, aber es gibt mehr Breaks mit Stilbrüchen, was mit dem Einsatz einer Hammond Orgel seinen Höhepunkt findet. Was auf dem Debüt bereits interessant, aber noch etwas ungelenk wirkte, erscheint mir nun deutlich harmonischer verzahnt und kompositorisch reifer. Besonders das hervorragende Gitarrenspiel, seit jeher ein Qualitätsmerkmal der Band, tritt hier klar hervor und verleiht dem Stück eine zusätzliche melodische Signatur, die 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌s Weiterentwicklung eindrucksvoll unterstreicht.

Damit erschaffen sich 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 eine ganz eigene Spielart des Death-Metal, was sie natürlich aus der Masse herausstechen lässt. Dies kann letztlich nur ein Vorteil sein, wenn man es derart kunstvoll umsetzt. Es fordert natürlich auch ein wenig Offenheit des Hörers für diese musikalische Spielart. Mich macht es jedenfalls extrem neugierig, was 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 sich alles für Geschichten auf ihrem Album 𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙊𝙛 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 ausgedacht haben.

𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 were formed in 1992 in Łódź, Poland, and made a remarkably distinctive debut with The Shadow of the Golden Fire (1994). Even at that early stage, their raw death‑metal core was interwoven with atmospheric keyboard layers and progressive structures – a bold approach for the early ’90s that clearly set the band apart from the Polish underground.

In the years that followed, the quartet released several albums on various labels and moved stylistically in a different direction. The harsh death‑metal foundation gradually faded into the background, while 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 embraced a more gothic‑oriented approach: including female vocals, symphonic elements, and a song architecture that leaned more strongly toward dramaturgical development.

The band disbanded in 2005, but in 2022 the musicians unexpectedly reunited. With an almost classic line‑up and renewed energy, 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 returned to revive their blend of dark metal, atmospheric arrangements, and progressive ideas.

Their new album 𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙊𝙛 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 will be released on May 8 via Fireflash Records, and 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 aim to reconnect stylistically with the spirit of their debut. So far, we’ve been able to enjoy two advance tracks, giving us an initial taste of what the band has in store.

Let’s begin with the second single, “March Of The Giants”:

The title “March of the Giants” immediately evokes a vivid image in the listener’s mind, an impression further reinforced by the song’s rhythmic character. Many people we spoke to mentioned that its structure reminds them of the epic tracks by Bathory. It’s easy to associate it with a heavily armed army conquering new territories and destroying everything in its path. For us, however, the focus lies more on the aspect of relentlessness. It’s a song about the idea that once you’ve assembled your team and set out together to achieve your goal, nothing can stop you from reaching it.

While 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 unleash a highly uncompromising onslaught with “March Of The Giants”; a track brimming with sheer energy yet offering melodic breathing spaces through an epic guitar solo. The track “Let Us Ride the World”, reveals a more progressive side, incorporating elements that are rather unusual for death metal.

“Let Us Ride the World” initially carries the familiar death‑metal vibe, yet already with noticeably deeper atmospheric depth. 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 attack with considerable vehemence in several passages, but the track features more breaks and stylistic shifts, reaching its peak with the unexpected use of a Hammond organ. What I found interesting on the debut—though at times still somewhat awkward—comes across here far more cohesive and organically integrated. The excellent guitar work, another clear hallmark of 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌’s sound, is once again prominently showcased.

With this approach, 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 carve out their very own interpretation of death metal, allowing them to stand out clearly from the crowd. When executed with such artistry, this can only work to their advantage. Of course, it also requires a certain openness from the listener toward this particular musical direction. In my case, it makes me extremely curious about the stories 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐔𝐌 have crafted for the rest of the album called 𝘽𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙊𝙛 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩.
